Finishing up Skyrim (PS3). I really enjoyed it for the first 150 hours or so I played (Thief’s Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Bard College, Main Quest) and am now playing just to get the Plat. I see it as a first person single-player RPG in a gorgeous sandbox environment that gives you a ton of freedom. I’m bored with endgame, sick of crawling dungeons and the load screens, but all in all a damn good game. I’d consider it the best I’ve played in a really long time.
Yep - how about that 1.2?
If it weren’t for the visuals and the ability to create your own mapping rather than grabbing the grid paper, it would be pretty tough to get through it. It definitely takes a LONG time to get down to the final levels - mucho grinding (especially if you are a collectionist/perfectionist like myself). I definitely love games like this, but even with my old school dungeon crawling perseverance, I resorted to consulting a guide in the last few levels. I was just wanting to move onto another game and I felt that if I didn’t consult a guide I would stop playing one day and never come back to beat it. Etrian Odyssey, if rating solely based on hours/dollar spent, would be at the top of most lists of completed games.
If anyone wants to torture themselves with a horrible dungeon crawler, try Swords and Serpents for the NES. Playing that as a kid made me appreciate graphics and story lines.
Lately I’ve been playing Link’s Awakening on the 3DS. 2 instruments left. It’s amazing how well a game like that can keep my attention longer than the newest games on the HD consoles. The only annoying factor is the item switching due to the original game boy having 2 freakin’ buttons. BTW, item switching is done using the START “button” on the 3DS (doesn’t feel like a button) and START is conveniently located near the POWER button, which happens to feel more like a button than START. Many a play has resulted in a power off rather than an item check…
I’ll never get why they thought it would be a good idea to put the power button on the touch screen. Oh well, have fun trying to use the OG save system without dying.
That said, I’ve started my NG+ run on Growlanser II. It’s hilarious that with a little grinding during my first run everybody but Hans is one shotting mofos :420: ev’ry day (not like this matters at all given that he has 3 follow up attacks on top of that one) aside from those Haute Mail guys (not like it matters since the second guy couldn’t even last long enough to swing around to grab his fallen buddy).
FEVII: Finished 28x several days ago, grinded up some supports, and gained Nino a few levels. Now I’m on chapter 29 and doing this in the stupidest way possible (trying not to arouse all three waves of reinforcements at once but then Heath gets sleep staffed while dodging Luna crits left, right, and sideways when I send him to fetch the Warp staff and then I have to trigger reinforcements anyways just to deal with the asshat Sage toting around a Bolting Tome (and he shows up just in time for the Bishop to use his last Purge charge the asshat), and I brought Florina with me because I still want to build support levels between her and Lyn even though she’s getting rocked by everything but Monks, also Pent, Louise, and Hawkeye for their supports/stage only convo (at the very least Hawkeye is now only one support convo from having all on record), and arrgh).
And while on the topic of Fire Emblem has anyone else been checking out the 3DS game? It’s crazy how much effort was put into it and puts even FE10 to shame.
My computer’s finally operational again! :victoly:
queues Final Fantasy fanfare music
Started up Dragon Age again and started the quest in Denerim. Tried to kill Marjolain (or whatever her name is) the easy way but got killed several times. Now for the cheap way of close the door after roasting in an inferno.
Toasty!:mwahaha:
I finished Tales of Monkey Island after ages. It started really slowly, but the last two episodes were MI quality.
But yeah finally gave up on swtor a month ago or so
So uhhh… D3?
edit: Noone is playing D3? wtf are you doing with your lives
Haven’t really updated in about a month but I think it’s time to fix that.
Unfortunately my playthroughs of Grow 2, FEVII, and Suki 2 have more or less stalled since my last post. In Grow II at least I’ve made it up to the Wolfgang route split which I’m taking this time with my Uber Wein to steamroll with. In FEVII I’ve hit a really weird point in chapter 29 where I’ve cleared everything but the boss and two Bishops but I just can’t seem to find the time to finish my shopping spree and beat the stage proper. In Suki 2 I’m still dealing with that whole Tinto business (although I guess I can at least say that I’ve beaten the game once, kinda).
What I have been playing recently was Robotrek and more recently Xenoblade. In the former I’ve just set out to look for the green haired kid (the other kids are back in town). In the latter I’ve just gotten told to journey to Colony 6 (I unfortunately didn’t even save in reserve due to my habit of never saving when plot goes down for fear of getting locked out of something (it’s always something plus I never seem to have the space in my memory storage for alternate saves) and wound up getting gibbed while looking for an NPC during a quest and figured I’ve seen enough to adjust my inventory and party for my next playthrough of that segment (and maybe not try to route EVERY fucking mechon this time)).
So what happens at the end of Robotrek? I played it up to a point but that was that.
Can’t say as I need to get there first, and I’ve just started the second plot quest.
Hahaha, the villain’s name is cake.
Why the fuck isn’t anyone playing D3 I’m currently raping inferno on two toons waiting for this goddamn maintenance bullshit to get out of the way of my playtime
Realm of the Mad God. A lot of it.
I finally at the conlcusion of Dragon Age Origins. I’m a little pissed because I won’t be able to finish one quest because I can’t access it as the area is it was in is now closed off, but what are you going to do?
I got Allister and Anora to marry and since I did the ritual with Morigan I’ll be around to supervise…that is until I follow Morrigan into her magic portal in Witch Hunt. Now if you excuse me, I have an archdemon to slay.
Recently finished yet another game that nobody I know has heard of, or cares about for that matter since it’s a Visual Novel (called Soul Link but nobody cares about that :P), and been doing some Inferno Butcher runs in D3 while waiting for the patch to arrive so it will be even remotely possible to go through Act II.
I’ve also found out that I am apparently the worst at being a fourteen year old magical princess.
Finished my run through of Grow 2’s Wolfgang ending, kinda disappointed that I didn’t get anything to show for it (beyond access to the sound room). At least it was hilarious to run around with my God Mode Wein annihilating everything in my path. Now I just need to resume my run through the main plotline and get some more endings for transfarring purposes to Grow 3.
Also Robotrek, made it through the caves a second time and the first boss. Now I intend to axe a few suckers in the face with my new axes (also I’m up to a full three robot compliment).
DAO and Leliana’s Song completed. Going to start Darkspawn Chronicles next. Not sure If I 'm going to try the Golem one until after Awakening though. I’ve heard the Harvester is one of the hardest boss fights in the series so far. Although I did make it to level 23 and I am a Spririt Healer so I might have a chance at it. Has anyone played it?
Harvester is nigh-fucking-impossible on hardest difficulty unless you’re past Awakening, and I hope you’re some broken ass class like Arcane Warrior.
Part of it is due to some awesome bugs that randomly make some of the mooks summoned by the boss unkillable, which is bad news because some of those mooks are Boss Class and will rape your anus if left alone, even post-Awakening. I ended up having to kite the unkillable fuckers around the room while ganging up on the Harvester with the other characters and praying for a miracle.
Additionally, the quest, much like most of the DLC, delivers noting new and kinda creates a few plotholes (Yes, it’s monstrous. No, I don’t buy that Branka thought it was too evil even for her. Did these guys PLAY through Branka’s section? Bitch was fucking crazy). And it ends in a typical horror-thriller “OR IS IT!?” cliff-hanger that is quite obviously never going to amount to anything, because if you take those last few seconds as canonical, Orzammar would be obliterated in minutes. Then there’s cheap ass sections like one room where you’re trapped with a fuckton of Golems in a tight space and you have to cheese a specific trap in the room over and over to win, because the fight is completely impossible if done straight.
Basically, it’s long, stupid and pointless. Though at least it doesn’t retcon shit like Leliana’s Song.
No Arcane Mage here, just Blood/Spirit, though I only got Blood Mage for the stat bonuses and because Shapeshifter just sucks. I’m only playing on normal, but based on what I read about the Harvester being a royal pain in the ass, I’m going to hold off on the Harvester until after Awakening. Thanks for the heads up SE.
Your setup is for pure-spellcasting classes, which is kind of redundant since you always get people who can do that (Anders, Velanna) whereas your character is the only one you can properly spec for an optimum Arcane Warrior, and that one’s indispensable in the DLC.
In Awakening, Wade sells a tome that allows you to reassign all your stat points and re-pick classes. Go for Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage/Battlemage or Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer/Battlemage (I like the second better). Whatever other mage you drag along (Anders, probably) should be Blood Mage/Spirit Healer/Keeper (There is absolutely no reason to pick any other classes for a pure spellcaster).
You have no idea just how idiotically broken the AW is until you see it in action. Since mages get spells to make up for their lack of armour, the ability to actually wear Massive Armour AND sustainables like Arcane Shield makes the AW essentially unkillable even with low constitution. Simply picking the class makes every Strength requirement check for Magic instead, so you can hit exactly as hard as any warrior, and since there’s no D&D-style Weapons Proficiency mechanic, you will also hit as often as any warrior with a Sword and Shield setup so long as you throw a couple points in Dexterity. Fade Shield (an improved Arcane Shield) and the Battlemage specialization in Awakening turn what was already a monster into a walking tank of death that can also cast monstrously powerful yet cheap spells like Hand of Winter AND can heal itself at will, over and over.
As a bonus, you get to wear cool armour, since it’s impossible to not look like a goddamn tool with mage gear in this game.
