That was kind of why I didn’t want to go the AW route. It just doesn’t fit my playstyle. There were times in Origins anyway that I was happy that Wynne and I both had Revive and Group heal. I was playing on Normal, but some fights still took a few tries to get through. A party should always have two mages in my opinion and I guess I’m too stuck in the “Buff/heal the tank while nuking from afar” that I don’t think I need an AW as I use a warrior to soak up the damage.
I’m going to finish Darkspawn Chronicles first before I decide anyway though, so I have some time.
Halfway through Awakening almost every battle consisted in having the Warden use Hand of Winter, have Anders turn on One with Nature and cast Thornblades and Nature’s Vengeance and then send Nathaniel and Justice on autopilot to kill whatever was left. Other than the spectral dragon, I don’t think anything came remotely close to killing me in the whole game. I think I could have slept through the last boss.
Anyhow, I’m playing Devil Survivor 2 right now. Pretty good sequel, though I’m disappointed in the bonus bosses. Lucifer in DS1 was flat out the best done bonus boss battle I’ve ever played through. Alice is a chump by comparison.
Just finished off Front Mission, and I’m thinkin’ about playin’ Secret of Evermore again. Ahh nostalgia. Also, save states. With my hectic schedule, I wouldn’t be able to play a game without 'em.
Plus it’d save you if you accidentally go down in the Evermore Triangle.
Additionally you can also try abusing the integer overflow trick to give yourself near maxed Def for the rest of the game, and eventually near maxed Str as well. All you need to do is cast the appropriate alchemy then save and quit before the buff wears off and finally load and watch your stat drop by a pre-buffed amount even though your stat was already returned to normal (of course doing this make the run a challenge to not cause a second overflow back into wussville by grinding too much or putting on too much armor).
Yeah. If only they had bothered to implement some kind of elemental system instead of making every damage spell just straight damage which then led to Crush being the best offensive alchemical spell in the game (by virtue of coming up at the start of the second region, being probably the only spell that you could carry 99 charges of at any given time, and running off of relatively cheap and common materials). The heal spells also suffer from the same lack of variety as by the time you start to come across better spells your tier 1 heal spell has leveled enough to compensate for the disparity of power while still running off of the cheapest material available versus the other stuff which don’t and aren’t.
I found Lance to be just about as useful as Crush, since the timing of it makes it a lot easier to stack. I was able to kill Verminator in my last playthrough without him even getting off a single attack.
That said, it’s all totally moot once you get the Bazooka. Through some bizarre glitch, I found myself with unlimited Cryo Blasts, meaning anything and everything took 1k damage per shot, as long as I hit.
In my current playthrough I just finished the Bugmuck and am moving on toward the swamp. I’m thinking I might move on again soon, as it’s just not the classic game I’m lookin’ to play.
I’ve started Awakening now. I’m hoping I can finish it before Guild Wars 2 comes out because I’m sure that will take all of my extra time for the near future.
Robotrek to the Past. Managed to finish up the past segment and am ready to go back to the future. I think there’s only one more dungeon left in the game. I also have the best weapon in the game (although I still need to grind it up to level 9).
In Xenoblade I’m now in the marshes. I’ve also noticed how much of your AP and SP comes from reaching landmarks than from any other source.
I’ve also gone back to Shadow Dragon again to finish up my Hard 5 run through. I’m currently up to chapter 24 and even though I could try pulling the dual Falchion trick I’m going to abstain for the sake of getting Gato in my party this time.
Steam has “no connection” while it happily loads every new page I ask it. I just won a couple achievements. All I’m saying is I’d better have my new toys when it establishes a new connection.
That’s a lot better than my steam.
If it can’t get a connection when it starts, I can’t even start it in offline mode, because it wants to connect to the steam servers first. (If I tell it to quit, it tells me it can’t connect to the steam servers. >_>)
Yeah, mine was a random hiccup that was solved with a restart (I was connected to the internet). The way it works is that if your connection suddenly goes AWOL and you had opened steam on online mode you can switch to offline mode and it works. If your connection is gone before you open your computer, your only hope is to tether your mobile phone, log in and then go offline mode and untether. But hey, my achievements/items were saved, so all’s well.
To get back on topic, sort of, I’ve been playing Kamidori Alchemy Meister and working my way through the bonus endgame maps. (Recommended minimum level 90 characters, and max level is 99.)
Most of the time they aren’t so much “challenging” as they are just a grind. Mostly your chance of success depends on the amount of potions/resurrection items and a few useful support items (like teleport stones) you have. Still, you get some really sweet loot, so it’s worth it if you’re a completionist or just like having the fanciest stuff. Or both.
Finished my Hard 5 run of Shadow Dragon. Now half way through my True Harem run (the dudes are doomed to die as Marth ain’t havin’ no competition for the ladies, and this time I’m making sure to grab both dragon chicks).
Currently playing Darksiders II. Still cannot fucking believe the nerve of these guys, I was laughing for a minute straight after I fought a giant colossus on horseback while stabbing its bright blue shining weak points. The rest is fairly standard I-Can’t-Believe-It’s-Not-Zelda, plus the Portal Gun.
Still, it’s a really fun game. I just fucking hate the camera, it’s definitely a step down from the first game and I’ve died several times because the fucking thing tries to be cinematic and I end up dodging back instead of left.
Get Mylen half-dead and abuse her Prevail III. That’s basically the only way to survive the maps. Try and get the reincarnation fountain first and then some Artifacts for Wil and other strong characters, the maps get easier when you actually have more than one character that can attack worth shit. Oh, and stay the fuck away from Phema Mountains until you’ve finished the rest, that one’s just there to piss you the fuck off.
Say. Just out of curiosity. Have either you or pokefreak_85 played Genrin no Shougun 2? I ask because it looks like some kind of bad Fire Emblem clone and I didn’t know if that was the case or not.
