what rpg would jesus play?

Who here isn’t surprised this has become a full-on discussion of religion? raises hand

Exactly. People shouldn’t have thier faith crammed down their throats (i.e. fear of divine retribution), they should believe because they honestly believe in the faith and it’s principles.

And I thought I’d still catch the topic while it was on games rather tha helligion.

I’ll just let this phrase out:

Originally said by someone who was asked by a priest if he would like to be converted (tip, his name begins with an R)
Jesus loves me, but I’m straight, so no, thanks.

I am not at all. In fact, I am probably going to cease posting in this thread if it continues in this direction, having already seen the results of heated religious debates on these boards beforehand.

I just wanna say that in spite of how silly and stupid some people are in their quest against (voilent/offensive) computergames, I think it’s good that those people are there and that they speak their mind. This way, things remain well-balanced. And as much as some of you may not like to hear it, playing games too much can be bad for (young) children in their phisical and mental development. Hell, playing too much computergames can even metally and physically destroy adults!

Yeah, I know; this has nothing to do with Christians.

I know that one first hand… looks at friend who was detatched from reality years ago

Oh really? Check out the link below:

Gotta love it how a gaming topic can turn to religion… Ah, well, me finish looking at Penny Arcade now, so whatever. :stuck_out_tongue:

Isn’t there some SNES RPG with ‘Bible’ as part of it’s title. I’m sure he’d be playing that.

I don’t think so, since he never even read the bible in first place.

Not that I would condone this, but maybe there will one day be a game about how terrible non-religious people can be. It’s main theme would be to tear apart humanistic ideals and expose the horrors of a totally secular society. Like Xenogears, only in reverse. No one could complain; the creators have their right to free speech.

My guess is that many atheists would condemn its ‘hate-based message,’ or some such. The wording of their protests would be different, but the idea behind them would be the same. People don’t like games that pointedly contradict their beliefs, whether they’re Christian or atheist.

The reviews on that Christian Spotlight site are amateurish, and made me want to do this - :fungah: - but I’m glad that sites like it exist. They have good intentions, and could live up to them someday.

Black & White is the closest thing (although being far, far away from being even near) to that. You basically have the chance to convert atheists to your regligion before other players do, or fight for the ones which have already been taken. The cool part is that you may incite their faith by targeting them with boulders, shooting lightning on non-believers head etc…

No, they’d attack the game the same way they attack the church today, claiming it drives people fanatical.

I agree with the :fungah: and with being happy that they exist, but I do disagree with them having good intentions.

edit:

<img src=“http://www.geocities.com/dark_ren_34/jesus.txt” align=left> Right on, Ren! I should add that I’ve played most of these games and since it’s mostly player being good and fighting evil, they have my approval. I want people to have fun, not to commit ascetisms. And tell those guys at that site that they can shove half of that poor philosophy of theirs up where the sun does not shine, I never said much of those things!

Yo!

Best thing ever to come out of a Kevin Smith movie, if you ask me. Except for maybe Clerks: The Animated Series.

Bow before my M4D L337 h0lee RPG SKILZ.

Sounds like GTA to me. I guess you can’t win. Anyway, what would be wrong with a secular society and humanistic ideals? Lacking faith in humanity, eh? Well, with games like GTA…

Well, it’s clear that as long as things respect certain borders, the games are harmless. The problem usually arises when fanatics start blasting everything they don’t like, and use all that pseudo-religious babble as a lame excuse for their lack of tolerance.
