I think it was a fun game, but I would nowhere NEAR say that it is one of my favorites.

I’ve never actually played MQ. Most people have told me it sucks though.

I personally think it’s the shittiest RPG I’ve ever played.

And I’ve played 7th Saga 1 and 2.

I loved MQ. Kickass music and some mindless fun, RPG style. Although, actually finishing the ENTIRE Ice Pyramid without finding the mirror was a bitch.

And ahven’t these people considered the fact that Jesus would not play RPGs? I mean… he wasn’t alive at the time.

This is too much!

GTA3:
Christian views: Had “GTA3” allowed the player solve missions more peacefully it could’ve been far more rewarding.
My views: But that would take all the fun out of the game!!

MGS2:
Christian views: Posters of near naked women adorn the occasional level, and sure enough the lead female character doesn’t wear any more than a swimsuit. To fit in with the futuristic feel there’s a lack of occult imagery, aside from a supposedly bisexual vampire.
My views: And exactly what is wrong with any of that stuff, drools at site of posters

FF7:
Christian views: Many Christians might find much of this material too offensive, and should probably avoid most RPGs altogether.
My views: Like WHAT?!?! The closest thing to offensive in this game is when Barret, or Cid swear, and even then it’s: %^&. How the hell can you be offended by that?

FF9:
Christian views: One objection to this game is an underlying message that duty and obedience to the law are bad things.
My views: And they are, 'cause they are just so dull and boring to have to do!

I just have one more thing to say, I’m so glad I’m not Christian!!

There is nothng wrong with being Christian, it is just that, like all good things you can go a bit far. I’m Christian (Lutheran), but I still like all of those games, and I’m fine with all of those games and references to God. However, it is easy to see how some people wouldn’t like it. It is just like when someone insults your mother and you get very defensive (I don’t since I know they’re joking, but there are some people), it is the same sort of thing. The game is insulting their mother in a way. I’m not saying I’m perfect sine I’m not like that or that my way is the right way, because I have my things. I’m just trying to say that it isn’t that bad and mayeb shed some light on why.

Infonick’s got it pretty good.
It’s not our favorite pasttime to see people deride our beliefs.

Sort of funny, I was reading some of the reviews. I first read Luigi’s Mansion and they said it had no offensive material. I wondered about the ghost, but was like “Whatever.” Then I read the Sonic Adeventure 2 review and they ssay that one of the bad things is that Knuckles has a graveyard level and there are ghost in it, even though theghost just try to hug you. Quite strange. You’d think that Luigi’s Mansion woul be highly objetional on that level.

I remember an NES game called Spiritual Warfare, which I watched (but did not play) long ago when I visited some Christian friends of mine (I think that they were Anglicans, but I cannot be sure). The game was more or less a Zelda-like Christian game, in which the object was to save souls and to collect the armour of God (obviously based on the metaphor in Ephesians). You also could encounter angels randomly who would ask questions related to Scripture and who awarded items for correct answers.

sigh I am also Christian and from what I read in the original post, all that seems like a lot of bull. I mean, it’s impossible to avoid sinning these days, it’s found EVERYWHERE’S…and it’s not like video games are real and your whole life is based around fighting monsters to buy that better sword…(well if it is, I apologize to those out there)

There are just some followers of God out there that are extremely delusional about the world we live in today, and then there are followers of God like myself, who don’t really worry what’s on TV or in video games, and we don’t take the content to heart.
Yeah right, like I’m really going to summon a meteor to wipe out earth or go into outer space chasing a sorceress.Geesh.It’s not like kids can’t be taught between what’s wrong and what’s right.

Yeah, but by Christians taking offense at things because they’re Christian, they miss a lot of the idea behind their own faith. Turn the other cheeck? Love thy neighbor despite his imperfections? Don’t let the small things in life bother you? Isn’t the point of any religion to lead to a more peaceful life? If those things aren’t Christianity is about, then they should be.

And I too remember Christian games for the NES. One was called ‘Exodus’ or ‘Genesis’.

Ahh not all Christians do.I know a lot of good people who are Christians (and a lot of them who are not) and you can’t really base an opinion on religion as a whole.Religion is the same, people are different. Some Christians are assholes in society who force their opinions and beliefs on another people and scream “YOU’LL BURN IN HELL IF YOU DO THAT!” and some Christians just don’t know what they’re doing wrong. There’s so much to God and the Bible, lotsa stuff to learn. What you said is true though. Those people on that website don’t really seem like true Christians at all, and that’s why I laugh at their attempts to put a halt to video gaming.
it’s almost as bad as Mothers Against Video game Violence And Addiction…:fungah:

They’re like the Inquisition, a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites!

If you’re talking about “Ultima: Exodus”, that is definately not a Christian game. :stuck_out_tongue:

there are many levels of christianity, which all have different interpretations of just about everything. “christian” is a very broad term; you can’t judge all christianity by one group, which in this case seems to be some rather fundamentalist baptists with very strict separation standards. another word for the fundy “doctrine” of separation is brainwashing, only exposing one to the church environment and sheltering it from everything deemed wordly or impure, such as rock music, violence, swearing, sex, drugs, pop culture, movies, occultic things (like magic and fantasy), other religions, atheism, etc.

i believe that approach deserves ridicule, because it enslaves a young mind with threats of discipline and divine punishment to keep them on “the straight and narrow”, or in reality, within the organization. it’s just wrong…everyone should have freedom of choice in their religious beliefs without the word “fear” being involved. after all, religion (or lack thereof) is clearly only a matter of faith, nobody can use science to prove who is right or wrong…which is why historically religion has so easily been used as a tool to control the masses and discourage rational thought, so those in power could stay in power, simply by providing empty words to ease identity diffusion, and by offering “mortality solution”, so to speak.
