You’re going to have to wait until after you’ve gotten the Godbird Soulstone then come back. Talk to Mareck in Ortutsk and answer yes to his question. He’ll give you 4 Nook Herbs. I just got them, but I kinda lied to him so ehhhh. >_> Then throw a Sage’s Robe, Magic Water, and a Nook Herb in the Alchemy Pot to get your Crimson Robe.
3-4 hours later, I have a liquid metal armor from the casino and the gringham whip, with an assload of tokens for saint’s ashes <_<;
What all did you do to make that many tokens? Casinos have never been kinda to me in DQ.
The slots, baby. I always work the DQ slots. There’s guide in my DW7 walkthrough to get 4 metal king helmets in Coastal. Once you get enough cash in DW8,you can also abuse the roulettes to make A LOT of tokens pretty fast. I made 50 000 tokens by landing on a 0 for example.
Edit: I just found a place where I was attacked by 8 metal slimes :O. You need the airform. Its in a mountain plateau West of Argonia. Look at the mountains between the spring and the camp on the side of the road that sells those evasion robes. Land on the green thing in the middle of those. To think I found this place cuz I was trying random buttons to land the fucking thing.
Fuck slots, Eric and I made 400000k tokens out of the free 600 with roulette. It was awesome!
Basically, we used the safe/semisafe bets to build capital, until we reached 21k. Then we made a castle, betting on every INCH we could around the numbers 1 to 9. If ANY of these come out, we make 55k tokens to 65k tokens.
Chaching.
A bit of save/load was needed, but I got the whip and 2 liquid metal armors, and a few ashes. I also have a staff of ressurection on Yangus now, it’s handy backup.
If it’s the place I’m thinking of where all you encounter are slime monsters, you can also find Metal Kings and Liquid Metal Slimes at night (and only night it seems). I’ll try roulette today and see how that goes.
I have heard, however, that at that certain place in order to encounter Liquid Metal and King Metal Slimes you need to have encountered them in other places first (Trodain Castle and the Dragon Graveyard, for example). This is all hearsay on my part.
I’ve never met metal kings.
Swords are overrated, says I! Spears all the way!
And, damn, I damn you people with a PS2 and DQ8.
I killed 1 metal king.
ONE.
Pain in the ass.
But I got most of my final gear and am ready for the final dungeon. I do enjoy the Dangerous Bustier’s look…rowr.
Okay, so, I’m pretty pathetic, but I added up the odds in my head, and came up with a method to always win at the roulette table, no matter what. No more saving and reloading, just always winning. Sure, it’s not real fast, but it’s 100% effective:
Bet 500 per on each of the “Double Streets” (1-6, 4-9, 7-12, 10-15, 13-18, 16-21, 19-24, and 22-27).
Bet 313 on the first “street” (1-3) and the last “street” (25-27).
On all other “streets,” bet 27.
Bet 179 on 0.
Your total bet will be 4994. If you get any number 4-24, you win 5216. If you get 1-3 or 25-27, you win 5004. If you get 0, you win 5012.
It’s not a huge win, but it’s something. If you take away the bets on all but the first and last streets, you’re guaranteed roughly 200 on every square. With the best on all of the spaces mentioned above, you win 220 from most numbers, and 10-18 with the others. Neither way looses you money, but one way is “riskier,” just because you win less some of the time.
Or, of course, you can just save/reload, bet whatever you want, and win money faster. I’m just saying is all.
It’d be slow profit, that’s for sure, but that’s an interesting trick. I guess that’s why real casino tables have the 00 to screw up your math.
That, and I think they got more numbers too.
And I think they weigh the odds differently, too. I was kind of surprised to see double streets worth 5x profit. That’s silly. The math is bad, so the player can always win. I’ve found a way to milk out an extra 50 tokens or so with each bet, too. Nix the far left street bet (the 313) and replace it with a 360 on the double street that consists of 0, 1, 2, and 3. Then, decrease 0’s bet to 89. This way, your total bet is closer to 4750 (or so), but you still rake in roughly 5000 every time.
BTW, does anyone have a faster way to make money in the casino? Occasionally, I switch it up to just bet on the double streets between 1 and 27 (4000 bet, usually 5000 return), but there’s too many risks involved (if it lands on 1-3 or 25-27, you lose 1500, if it lands on 0, you lose everything).
I just bet 500 tokens on every single thing I could relating to 1-9. A win netted me 50k-60k tokens for a net profit of 30-40k. Of course, you’ve basically got a 1/3 chance of winning, so you’re going to be saving and reloading some. I spent less than an hour doing this and got my Gringham Whip, Liquid Metal Armor, Falcon Sword, some Saints Ashes, and some Spangled Dresses for alchemy.
I did the same as Kagon, except I never bothered with the dress stuff, since I only wanted/needed one.
I have not played DQ8 yet, but I do know about roulette!
If there is only one 0 on the wheel, that means it was modelled after the European roulette wheel, most likely. With one zero and 36 numbers, the House edge in European roulette is 2.7%. In American roulette, which has double zero, the House edge is 5.4%.
Now, if DQ has 36 numbers besides the zero(es), there are three betting strategies one can use. There’s the typical Martingale betting system. Basically, you start with a low bet on a 1 to 1 payout (such as red, black, odd, or even). If you win, fine. You bet the same amount. If you lose, you bet twice what you lost in order to try and make it up, each loss causing the bet to grow exponentially.
Another, less disastrous, betting system is to use the Fibonacci system. Under that, you model you bets off of the first 6 or 7 fibonacci numbers. It would be more applicable in real roulette rather than crazy video game roulette.
Another betting strategy that is no number based, is called the Red Snake strategy. Under it, you bet the same amount of chips starting with red 1, heading diagonally for red 9, then back down to red 16, and so on until you reach red 34. Under a board with 36 numbered squares, you’ll have just under a 1/3 chance of winning (that coupled with the 35 to 1 payoff makes it worthwhile). Match that system with Martingale’s betting system, and you should have a rather fast means of making alot of money without having to reset. That is, of course, is if the DQ8 roulette wheel has 36 numbers (and the zero).
Ah, there’s only 28 numbers in the DQ8 roulette table if I remember correctly which kinda messes up those strategies. They can probably still be used if modified a bit though, thanks for the info.
Just beat the final boss in DQ8- it was really pretty easy. My level were Hero 46, Yangus 47, Jessica 45, Angelo 46. Onto the bonus dungeon now.
I anticipate the final boss to be really easy with omniheal, multiheal, hustle and the myriad healing and mp healing items available.
I mainly used the Sage’s Stone. Omniheal was good when I got smashed with more damaging attacks back to back, but it wasn’t bad overall, especially since Sap worked quite well. Plus having both Jessica and Angelo be able to cast Oompf made things easy whenever all my buffs got dispelled.
Oh yeah. Jessica does 1700 pts of damage at tension 50 with the ultimate whip and the double dragon attack thing and oomph. Its just so absurd.
