Wild ARMs 5: the Vth Vanguard.

Is there any connection, battle-wise, between Angolmois and the Sol Nigers? (I haven’t cleared the ones in Inferno or Abyss yet.) Just wondering if I clear those last two, if it’ll make him easier or harder, or not change anything.

I fought him with only one Sol Niger left to go (the Abyss one) and he was still a tough fight. I dunno, I think that it actually doesn;t make any difference. his “the Seventh Moon” attack killed everyone but Dean, and even Dean died once or twice. When he survived, his hp could usually be counted in double digits.

Wow, you weren’t kidding. Seventh Moon hit, and down went Avril and Rebecca, but Dean barely clung to life. However, one Full Revive later and soon the battle was over successfully.

Cid: I have been getting all the strongest weapons and armors. And yes, I raised their Attack to the max. That’s why I’m disappointed with their performance. I know right now I’m fighting Bosses, but darn, I expected some whiz-bang by now, you know? The Force abilities are particularly disappointing. And I’ve been using all the Summons (though I don’t think I’ve yet gotten all three characters in one hex while using one.)

Val: My Dean is now Level 100, is equipped with his most powerful sword, as well as the Sword Medium. He is my most powerful attacker, and in fact I use Sonic Vision more often than anything else because it does more damage than anyone else’s attacks. Even in Ley Points he rarely does more 8000 HP. So you tell me what I’m doing wrong. And yes, I’ve started to use he best Badges now, like the Sheriff Star.

And tactical RPG combat is my favorite, for years now. I didn’t have these problems with FF Tactics, for example. I just don’t like certain elements here, like how the spell effects stay in the hexes, or how you can’t use elemental attacks without stepping in the right Ley Point. And even THAT doesn’t explain why my characters suck so much.

I should also remind you guys that I’m using somebody else’s walkthrough, from Gamefaqs- not the official one, nor did I get to plan ahead like I usually do. It’s too late for that now- I’m tired of the game and I’m not going to bother coming up with tactics now. Like I said, if I can’t kill the optional Bosses using raw power and common sense I’ll just go back to finishing the game.

PS: Asgard killed one boss so far. But it couldn’t defeat the 5-Gob team Boss. Its AI SUCKS! It spends most of time defending even from attacks that don’t harm him that much. I gave it elemental attacks but had to take them away because it never used them well. And I found out that IT HAS A FREAKING TIME LIMIT! If it hasn’t killed a Boss in 48 turns it vanishes and the party shows up instead, just in time to get wiped out. What, it needs refueling? YEESH! Losing to those losers is particularly shameful. :thud:

On the party’s front, I took down the Ape Man Boss, but it wasn’t that hard- it had a limited field of movement and two Ley Points just perfect for the battle, unlike most other Bosses I fought. Still took me a long time because of its high HP.

Still haven’t beat the Lycanthropes. Curses in Spanish. :ark:

What Badges does your Dean have? Mine has Sheriff Star, Cat’s Paw, and Berserker Badge (other two don’t affect his damage), and consistently does 14000+ damage with Finest Arts, up to about 17000.

Sohee: I don’t recall right now, because I’ve been switching the badges around depending on the battle. However I know I’ve been equipping him and Greg with the Sherrif Star or the Punch Glove, they’re my main attackers. Avril is my main healer so I gave her the Terrace Tiara so she never runs out of MP (too bad she dies so easily.) Chuck is wearing the 100% Badge, I use him mostly to block Bosses or to move them around (since he’s useless for attacking or healing with that Badge on). Carol is my secondary blocker/healer and Rebecca attacks long range with magic and bullets.

If any body got any better Character/Medium/Badge combinations I would like to hear them.

Update: Managed to kill the Graboid Boss by using a combination of tricks. First I gave Asgard the Giga Crush attack that the Boss was weak to and nothing else; while it STILL spent more of its time defending, by the time it vanished it had significantly lowered the Boss’ HP. Then I had Chuck in the main party for no other reason than waiting for the Boss to kill Greg and Dean, then I would switch him for Avril, fully revive the other two, then switched her back for Chuck. This works as long as the Boss doesn’t get to Avril before she can be switched out.

I have to admit, setting up the Tangrams for Asgard is fun. If ONLY I could stop it from blocking so much. Is it because of the empty spaces in the Tangram board? Anybody know? And do the position of the pieces in the board matter? Damn we need more info on this, I can’t believe neither the game nor the online walkthroughs explain it well.

Gonna try knocking out more Outer World Pillar Bosses with Asgard today.

My setup: Dean and Chuck both have the Sheriff Star. Dean has Cat’s paw and Berserker Badge equipped. Chuck has the Luck medium, with Tiny FLower, so when the battle starts, he’s the first one to move, and gives me an instant filled force gauge. Carol is my main healer, always on a Ley point so her MP keeps refilling. Somethign about her keeps her on the verge of death, but the Crisis Action ability lets her heal everybody, if done right. I gave people the special badges like Nose Hero, Speed Queen, etc. if I felt they needed it.

Well after playing for like seven hours straight last night, I’ve beaten every optional boss, all with the same setup (minus the ones I used Asgard for).

Dean with Sword Medium: Sheriff Star, Cat’s Paw, Berserker Badge, Mist Cloak, The Omega (King’s Crown before I got it)
Rebecca with Sky Medium: Sheriff Star, Cat’s Paw, Violator, Mist Cloak, Dual Cast
Avril with Sea Medium: Sheriff Star, Cat’s Paw, Mist Cloak, Dual Cast, Gold Sun (hey, more health never hurt)

I had 100% Orange on Avril for Ragu O Ragla though, which in hindsight I felt was a really cheesy way to beat him. Maybe in another playthrough I’ll fight him fairly.

Sohee: I hate you.

Seriously, that’s a nice setup. I only have one Sheriff Star (I had two but I synthesized one to make the 100% Badge, I think.) I’m currently looking for the ingredients to make more Badges.

I also tinkered around with my character/badge combinations, now that everyone has 5 Badge slots. They have improved a little. I also decided to go to the Abyss and level everyone up to level 100 before taking on any more bosses. This also allowed me to find four more optional character armor-costumes (they are dropped in random battles.) None of them are that impressive, at least not now that I already have the best armors.

I also beat another Pillar Boss in the overworld, the[SPOILER] five Oil Spirits /SPOILER. This time I looked them up in Gamefaqs and prepared Asgard’s tangram to focus on their weaknesses. It worked; by the time Asgard vanished only one was left. Still can’t beat the darned Gobs, though. By the way it seems I was right, the less empty space is left in Asgard’s Tangram Board, the less he seems to waste time blocking. Too bad you can’t give it multiple versions of the same power; that forces me to give it lots of powers that he may not need. And DAMN but is it stupid, it can’t even tell to avoid the hexes it has cursed. Seriously, they gave the average monster better AI in the game. I just don’t get it. :frowning:

Todays’ WA5 report: Defeated another sealed Boss, the Que Sera Seras. (That’s means “whatever will be, will be.” It’s a Song from an old Alfred Hithcock movie. I’m probably the only one here old enough to know that. :stuck_out_tongue: ) I also (FINALLY!) beat the Lycanthropes in Cocytus, earning me the Sonar Kit that allows the map compass to show nearby hidden treasure boxes as well as the map coordinates. I’m mad that it takes so long in the game to get this, however.

On the other hand, I STILL can’t beat those !@#$ing Gobs Bosses. I’ve tried using Asgard, various Party combinations, and even both. Asgard is too dumb to kill them all off, and they have too many HP and do more damage than any of my characters. And it really pisses me off that you can’t attack the Healer first because that causes ANOTHER Gob to be added to the battle! ARRGH!! OK, I’m open to strategy suggestions from anyone now.:too bad:

Besides the Gobs, I still have to kill:

-Chaugnar, the Elephant Boss. I have NO idea how I’ll kill this thing without help from Asgard. It’s got 350,000 Hp AND it can steal your HP! :frowning:
-The FurFurs (I have a plan to beat them, tho.)
-The Black Box (I still need to find about 20 Treasure Chests- do the ones in the Hell Dungeons count? Anybody know?)
-The King of Angolmois and Ragu o Ragula. (I may just skip these two, I can never beat them in any WA game.)
-Hrsvagr or whatever the Mythismere hidden Boss is called. I’m saving it for last because you have to buy those stupid school uniforms with your character’s levels first. Oh, and you also need them to open the door to the last hidden Boss, Prime Vals. Grrr.

-I also need three Full Revives to finish the Anastacia sidequest. Where can I find them? (BESIDES the Black Market, I mean. Duplicators, too.)

The chests in the hell dungeons do count. it has to be every chest in the game.

I’m not sure what to tell you about killing the Gobs, Wil. What I did was I had Carol backed into a corner Ley HEX while Dean and Chuck protected her. Chuck pretty much guarded and cast Fragile and Slow Down (after stealing everyhting), and Dean moved about the board when applicable to do Sonic Vision, and if possible, a Ley-augmented Heavy Crush. They were actually the second boss I beat.

I also can’t help much… my damage and defense ratings simply seem to be way higher than yours for some strange reason. 8-( Sherriff Stars?

I beat the Gobs with just Asgard for the most part. My characters came in at the very end and finished off the last two alive. Maybe I was just lucky. If your Asgard isn’t doing enough damage, complete the four Hell dungeons first. You’ll get Asgard’s best equipment there, and you can head to Capo Bronco to equip it. The Furfurs actually gave me the most trouble, because if you don’t finish them off with Asgard, a single Lightning attack will insta-kill your entire party. -_- FYI, the only bosses I have left to beat are the Furfurs, Black Box, Ragu and Angolmois. I have no intention of beating the Black Box since I have no idea which chests I already got and am not interested in going back through every single dungeon with an FAQ in my lap.

The elephant boss was the first one I beat. O_o He just didn’t seem to do much damage to me, and using Ley Points judiciously he went down really quickly.

Not to depress you further, but you need two DIFFERENT sets of armors for the Hidden Ruins and Mithysmere. In total you’ll need 360 levels to buy them all.

When I beat Que Sera Sera, Rebecca got the killing blow, and her victory quote was “Whatever will be, will be!” Part of me thought it was funny, but most of me just groaned.

Not true. I used the same damn outfits for both bosses. …I still bought the second outfits because I’m a retard, but not until after I fought both bosses. Ands for the record, Wil, they are, by far, the easiest optional bosses in the game (not counting Melchom and Apple bosses). You should have no problem with them, even at lower levels.

Really? O_o Now I feel stupid. Although it didn’t take me long to get the levels to do it.

Did anyone else notice the Castlevania: SotN reference? That one had me burst out laughing. 8p

The one on the memory bird in Harmonde? I loved it.

I don’t get the Castlevania reference, could someone explain it to me?

Didn’t get to play today, as I spent the day helping my best friend with some stuff over at his house. I’m planning on doing a major revision of my Character/Mediums/ARM settings/Badges combinations first to see if they finally do some decent damage, anyway. BTW I need some elements for more Badges. Anyone knows where I can buy or steal:
-King’s Crowns
-Full Carrots
-Castle Walls
-Frey Amulets
-Tiny Flowers
-Full Revives

And is there a way to get back to Locus Solus? I know I bought some of those things there.

One of the parrots says “What is greed? A miserable pile of selfishness!” Hilarious paraphrase of Dracula from SotN.

You can’t buy those anywhere (including Locus Solus) except for the Black Market. Sorry, man. 8-( And no, you can’t get back there.

Btw, I beat the Furfurs with just Asgard yesterday. Admittedly he had 2 turns and 4000 HP left, but I did it. 8p Also beat Angolmois fairly easily, and gave Ragu a try or two. It looks like the only “real” way to beat him is to park two characters on Fire and Water Ley points and hope to God he doesn’t do Ley Change or Dark Isolate. In other words, pure luck. I’m probably going to have to resort to a cheaper method.

Tower: M. There are monsters in there you cxan steal them from. Already mentioend Full Revives. There is only ONE Full Carrot in the entire game, so if you used that, Wil, you’re screwed. Tiny Flowers… as i recall, there is one you get for doing a gardening quest, but you can;t steal them. Castle Walls can be grabbed from a few monsters, as I recall… there’s an enemy in TF Tower: O, one of those three chopper/bomber/ripper types, that you can steal them from.

That’s all the help I can give you. I don;t recall King’s Crown. Sorry

Only ONE Carrot in the whole game? Then why is it necessary to make more than one item? You’d think they would warn us about that.

Ahh, nevermind. I’ll just cross having one Badge of each kind off my WA5 to-do list. I’ll get them next time.

But I don’t care- because today I beat SEVERAL of the Bosses I wanted- INCLUDING THOSE ODIOUS GOBS!!! As I said I reset the Mediums, ARMS and Badges, and I think I have a better team right now. However, I beat the Gobs with Asgard alone- after messing around with the Tangram so that it attacked more often than it defended, it actually killed ALL of them by itself! It still bothers me that it’s so random; if I could control it directly I’m sure I would’ve beat them LONG ago.

Afterwards I took on the Elephant Boss and managed to kill it by trapping it in a distant hex (all its attacks save for Life Drain are short range.) So I just blasted it from the Wind hex until it died. Took a while, but not as long as I expected.

Then I faced the Furfurs. I used Asgard with the same Tangram as the above battle, and then I had Rebecca and Dean use Sonic Vision on them until they died (I also had Carol equipped with the Sea Medium and the 100% Badge; she only took 100 Hp from all their attacks, and she kept reviving the others- with only 100 Hp, so they were constantly killed off, but they got to attack first, so eventually they wore both of them out.)

Next up: I’m going to see if I can beat Angol Mois with the same 100% Badge trick. If so, I’ll try Ragu afterwards. But first I’ll buy some duplos in the Black Market to open the chests in the Abyss- I plan to regain the lost levels there anyway. After Ragu, I’ll try to finish the Black Box quest, then buy the school costumes to beat the Mythismere Boss and Prime Vals. And THEN I’ll go to the ending of the game. (Note: I’ve found out online that Volsung’slevel depends on the party’s, so leveling up back to 100 wouldn’t do much good anyway.)
