... why me? (FF9 spoilers)

Heh, I’m not like that at all. I rarely use characters who I like just 'cause of the story, I’m just a strategy geek. 8p

In any case, I really liked nearly all the characters in FF9 for various reasons. Freya was actually the only one I didn’t like much at all because she was so bland. The others were either funny, cool or some variant on sweet.

Hehe I knew you would say that.Vivi is uninteresting to me because of his character development, and plus the way he looks. He looks like a standard black mage, the typical ff mage, and well…he’s not really “cool” or “intimidating” to me.(Ohhh scary six year old weilding a staff…and don’t get me started on how Quina annoys me :P) But yeah, I like Freya, you hate Freya.I hate Vivi you like Vivi! But Vivi is cute, I must admit that.I liked going to his village.

I don’t really hate Freya, I just don’t particularly care for her. Like Cid says, she’s just bland. And I like most of the characters in FF9 too.

Zidane is funny. His attempts to get into Dagger’s pants are always amusing, and he’s a good guy, too. I like Dagger for the most part, but sometimes her princess-y attitude and her moping are a little annoying. Vivi is just awesome. He has lots of character development if you ask me. And I don’t think Vivi should be intimidating, I just like his childish emotions. He’s cool. I don’t know too much about Amarant yet, but I wanna see how he turns out. So far, though he’s been helping Zidane, he really hasn’t been pulling for him. That’s why he’s interesting. Quina is just funny.

The only three characters I don’t like all that much are Steiner, Eiko, and Freya. Steiner is such a jerk to Zidane, so I don’t really care for him. But I’d really say that it’s more of a love-hate relationship. I understand that the only reason he’s such a prick is because he’s an idiot. He makes the game that much more interesting. So I don’t mind him all that much. I hate Eiko 'cuz she’s mean to Vivi, and throws herself at Zidane, which is just creepy. And Freya is just kinda boring. I hope she gets more development soon.

And BTW, I’m almost done leveling up in the Desert Palace. I don’t foresee myself needing anymore help, but if I do, I’ll come here. Expect me to come back with a long discussion about this game when I’m finished with it.

I like using a group of balanced party members. When I can I like using Zidane (He’s quick fighter), Steiner (the tank character), Vivi (black magic), and Eiko (white magic and summoning). The story doesn’t effect if I use the characters or not, just how I feel about them.

Freya was woefully underdeveloped as a character It’s shame, since she was actually my favourite out of IX. I had her on my team as often as possible.

Well mine is kinda based off of the same formula, except I used characters that I like. And I hate Eiko, so I use Dagger, and I rather dislike Steiner, so I use Amarant.

That works. I agree that Amarant is pretty cool but I like knights and medieval stuff better, that and Steiner has Magic Sword with Vivi that helps a lot in boss battles since most have elemental weaknesses or then you could just Flare Sword on anything. I think Steiners specials are more useful than Amarant’s too becuase they do more things than just damage whick Steiner can dish out pretty easily on his own.

Oh Steiner is definitely a useful character, and I wish I liked him so I could use him, but I don’t.

I always used Zidane, Dagger, Vivi, and Quina. Why, do you ask?

Zidane: Besides being the main character, and thus unavoidable for like 95% of the game, I LOVE the steal ability in any game I play.

Dagger: She has very powerful white magic and summoning abilities, including Odin, a wind attack, in that game. ^^

Vivi: Black Magic is always useful.

Quina: I like Blue Magic, okay?!

I, too, usually base my party on characters I like, provided they make a useful team. In the case of FFIX, my ideal party would include Vivi, Quina, Freya, and Amarant. Eiko is one of the few FF characters I never use if I can avoid it.

the group that works best for me in IX is:

-zidane (fast; ability to steal)
-vivi (black magic)
-steiner (strong; tank)
-dagger (white magic; summoning)

this is the group i use whenever i can in this game.

I like Dagger because she’s got better summons (namely Bahamut) but Eiko’s got better white magic (like Full-life, Holy, as well as Madeen) which if feel if more important. Although it’s wrong, I find the idea of a six year old kid trying to get in between Dagger and Zidane funny.

Oh, she does have better white magic, and yes that is more important, but I hate her. I almost hope Kuja never returns her. When you think about it, you’d think Eiko would have better summons 'cuz she was raised longer as a summoner, but whatever.

And I suppose it is funny, but that type of thing always kind of creeps me out. I hate to watch children and their idealistic thoughts of true love/love at first sight.

Hehehe… When you get her back, and see what new trick she’ll get, you’ll leave her in your team no matter what for quite a while… Trust me…

Madeen rules!!!

I second that. Almost every game has that one spazzy character that you’ll learn to love eventually, like Yuffie in FFVII, or Zell in FFVIII. I just wish she had a powerful non-elemental attack like Bahamut. Believe me Jenova, you’ll get over your “I don’t like that person, so I won’t use them” attitude sooner or later. You might have to some day in a game because it may be a requirement. Like Cid said, it’s better to go for strategy than for personal tastes. I often makes the game easier and more enjoyable to play.

Um… I never learned to like Yuffie.

And I’ll only use her when absolutely necessary, as in, game forces me to use her. And I do what I do because it makes the game more enjoyable for me. With a three person party, I would only use my three best, but with 4 it just gives me that luxury to use my favorites. I’ve gotten Eiko back… but I’m still not using her.

Hmmm… It wasn’t because of Eiko that I started using her after the whole Gulug Vulcano thing… It was simply because I liked Maduin in Final Fantasy 6, and Madeen… Well… He’s close to even cooler… Just the fact that he disguises himself like a mog makes him enough of a loser to fit well with Eiko, though…

And ehm… Yuffie sucks. I despise Yuffie.
