What video game are you currently playing?

I’m using region-free games as my go-to example for the usefulness of breaking down trade barriers from now on (says the man with the Ouendan avatar).

Enjoy it while you can. I hear that the 3DS will finally do away with handheld region-freedom.

Someone appeal to the WTO! Crap.

It’s probably the fault of Ozzies’ turning their currency into a real dollar exchange-wise (and thus not wanting to pay 90 bucks per game).

And it will be thoroughly ignored. Much more effectively, someone will hack it.

Looks down… and wipes a tear off his right eye

Kill: I think it’s the reverse- Leyka’s death was rather underplayed, in my opinion; in fact it felt like the only reason they included it at all was to give Luca an excuse to split off from Cloche’s group and then help the rebels, thus setting up the conflict between them. I mean after the opening sequence they barely mentioned her until then, and hardly again afterwards. I honestly didn’t expect to hear about her again. And I actually liked it better that way… this just sounds too contrived.

Oh and of course I noticed Jacqli’s world slowly “shattering” (they even put in sound effects for it!) obviously meaning that this is a facade for her TRUE Cosmosphere which will soon show up (I hope.) In fact I liked the whole “Visual Novel” thing; it’s just that it failed to get me to care for Miros or to understand why Croix would be so attracted to a snarky Gothic Lolita. This of course could just be a sign of how poor a writer Jacqli is, which given this game’s penchant for self- criticism might actually get pointed out in a future conversation (I like that!)

And yeah, I wonder how long this game would be even if I weren’t stopping to do optional stuff in between every mission. The pacing seems off.

Nothing new to report, haven’t played, been busy and tired. Next time. :thud:

Nope, you’re stuck on Level 5, remember? Mir’s real Cosmosphere starts at Level 6, so you’re out of luck in this playthrough.

Right now I’m playing street fighter 4. It was too difficult game but very interesting.

What kind of bath shop creates bots to scourge a video game forum? Honestly now…

Star Ocean the last hope and enjoying it way, way more than I thought I would. It’s already much more interesting than Tales of the Abyss. Lymle is starting to annoy me, and the camera hiccups are a pain, but otherwise, Tri Ace’s best game in years.

At approx. 109-and-a-half hours, I have finally finished Phase 4 of Ar Tonelico II; only Phase 5 left!
Comments:
-Oh man, did they have to kill Reisha!? I liked her a lot (and not because of her boobs -well not just because of them :stuck_out_tongue: ) It also pisses me off that she died saving Luca when not only the rest of the heroes where there, closer to her, Croix had even pulled out his sword precisely for that. HOW COULD HE FAIL!? They also almost ruined the moment by having one of those “I’m dying but I have plenty of time to explain my feelings and say goodbye” speeches. Still, overall this was a very effective moment, especially the conversation between Cloche and Luca afterwards.

-Also, judging from that conversation it seems that Croix/Jaqli is going to be the canonical ending in this game. Though I don’t see any real chemistry between them, except in her Cosmosphere where the his actions are totally illogical (so far).

-I must admit I will miss Soope, as well, annoyingly cute as he was sometimes.

-And what the heck is the problem with Skycat!? She goes ballistic on Luca for her not being as close a friend to her as she (thinks) she’s to Luca? Not to mention that she’s been sexually teasing Luca (obviously against her desires) every time she sees her, which she may think it’s playful but actually sounds more like sexual harassment. And Luca actually felt guilty about it!? Is this some kind of tribute to Girls Love mangas? (I don’t read those, but I suspect they decided to throw innuendos of all kinds in this game, not just male fan service.) Note I have no problem with gay characters, but neither one of the all-but-openly gays in this game (Skycat and Targana) are very likable because of their personalities.

-On the other hand, I was actually surprised by the girl who is Luca’s Dive Teraphy understudy (cannot remember her name) when she saved Luca by doing a “proxy dive”. I wasn’t expecting anything out of her- nice touch. Too bad apparently she doesn’t have a full-body, drawn character sprite for use in conversations, only a small generic “town girl” sprite. Come to think of it Mrs. Lehr, Luca’s old boss doesn’t have one either, despite having a bit of significance in parts of the story. It makes it look like the characters are talking to empty air.Why is that? Don’t tell me drawings are mor expensive than sprites!

-Finally, while I wasn’t that surprised that Luca and Cloche’sa mind guardians turned out to be more than they appeared, I wasn’t expecting them to have a villainous role. Finally the game is surprising me in ways I enjoy rather than make me feel creepy.

Eagerly looking to finishing the game.

If I remember correctly, the last time that particular character fought the party it did not end well for them. Kinda hard to bumrush somebody that thoroughly curb-stomped your rear end from even half a game ago.

Plus she needed to die for dumping the rest of her plot load.

Additionally you’re going to have a hard time with the game from here on out if you don’t like gay couples because most of them are or are at least bi-curious.

Anyways DQIX: Good god, the attribeauty is ridiculously effective for hunting various metal slimes. Pair it up with Fan Dango and suddenly, for 8 MP, you’ve got someone lashing out three to four randomly assigned hits with all the standard perks of regular attacks save for power and the following additional attributes: First Strike, Metal Effective, Tension Reduction, and Unblockable (not to be confused by undodgeable). With just one of these I can pretty much outright destroy up to a Liquid Metal Slime. With two users I can put the hurt on even Platinum King Jewels before they can do a damn thing.

Right, let’s hesitate when said character is about to kill someone you love! Some heroes these are! This is also the third “Hey you guys you were standing right there WHY DIDN’T YOU DO ANYTHING!?” moment in the game I’ve seen so far. Geez, I know it’s hard to make the game and its story blend perfectly together but you’d think THOSE moments would get priority!

Plus she needed to die for dumping the rest of her plot load.
No she didn’t. In fact I was hoping to see her end up with Leglius. This is such a cliche it hurts my teeth.

Oh and I have no problem with gay couples, as I said. It’s characters who badger people then claim it’s out of love that annoy me (especially if they suddenly demand their feelings be reciprocated) whatever their sexual orientation may be. I hope that doesn’t happen with Claudia (who has a similar obsession with Croix) too.

No update yet, been too busy to play. More on the weekend.

I’d buy if there was anything I needed. These people understand their customers:chupon:

112 hours gametime:

Well now THAT’S a lot better: the scene that “resolves” (sort of) Croix and Claudia’s relationship was better than Luca/Skycat’s, mostly because Gasp! it had him taking action and showing emotions! (I wouldn’t say Croix is an entirely flat character like some people claim; he does have his moments, it’s just that they are few and far between, especially since he’s supposedly the “main” character.) I like Claudia but I was afraid her thin grasp of reality (she doesn’t seem to realize the weapons she so lovingly craft are used to KILL PEOPLE) was going to lead her to a crushing realization, but instead she seems to have realized that Croix will never be anything other than a friend, no need to go ballistic on him for it. I hope she gets her flower shop in the end.

…And I just realized that every “shopkeeper” character in the game is meant as a personal foil for each of the four main characters: Claudia for Croix, Skycat for Luca, Sasha for Cloche and Spica for Jacqli. Yeah, I’m slow these days. :stuck_out_tongue: I have also seen Sasha’s “resolution” and I found it touching too. Can’t wait to see Spica’s.

The story keeps surprising me: now in order to save their crumbling land they have to intentionally destroy half of it!? Whoa. Didn’t see that coming. And the way it’s being handled is not the usual “just do it and never mind the consequences”. They actually have to deal with the public! Again, since I play this kind of games mostly for the story, I really like this aspect. Honestly, the story is so good the innuendos in it are starting to feel misplaced (edible underwear? SERIOUSLY??) I really wish they’d stop, we have enough fan service already. But I suspect we still have more. I hope none of it involves… Shun. urgh

So…it’s been a while.

Finished the the Lufia remake. It was average…really. It does have some pretty interesting puzzles and crazy bosses, but not much beyond that. Also, the Dual Blade is totally hax. Of course it would stop Time itself… Makes the last boss interesting at least. I can elaborate more on the game if you like, I’d just rather not do it now.

On to what I’ve been playing… FF: 4 Heroes of Light! It’s actually kinda compelling to me. I have to laugh though at the fact your party members keep dumping and/or losing one another. Game gets annoying in solo parts because of that. The battle system takes some getting used to. Unlike other FFs, you have no manual targeting at all. Attacks will target enemies based on your weapons (hitting the front row or back row), and healing targets to the person with lowest health. Hadn’t quite figured out how buffs prioritize yet though. Also different is that enemies don’t drop Gil. That means money is scarce early on. Instead, they drop Items and Gems, which you can sell for money or use to enhance your Crowns, which act as the job system for this game. Crowns usually come with innate abilities and skills, which you can get more of as you enhance the Crowns. Btw, Magic is crazy strong if you equip yourself properly. It’s so awesome to see a boss lose 1/2 it’s health to a powered-up Fira.

Back to Kirby’s Epic Yarn. I hope to finish it tonight then on to Assassin’s Creed or Tales of Legendia.

Halo Prime: Finished. And with that the MP Trilogy is too.

Now started up, yet another playthough of LttP. This time trying to get as much as I can as early as I can. So far I have the Boomerang, Bombs, Magic Powder, Ice Rod, Lamp, Bug-Catching Net, Two Bottles, and 6 Pieces of Heart, without stepping foot in the first dungeon.

DQIX: I’ve finally started collecting the game’s top weapons. Unfortunately, I now have two copies of the top spear. At least I also have the top boomerang (too bad the top whip completely blows it out of the water).
