The three laws of robotics

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or; through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

  2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law.

  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law.

2: Protect the Innocent
3: Uphold the Law

any other laws?
Destroy Robinson family?

I thought that the self-preservation one was second, and Following Orders third.

you thought wrongly. if I want a sammich, and the sammich is accross a pool of lava. that damn robot better go get me the sammich! sammich is more important!

I must have missed something here… Why can’t I build a robot that randomly kills people? Who wrote this law that restricts my first amendment rights to freedom of bloodthirsty robotic expression? And why not just make a new sammich?

Isaac Asimov.

And Self-Preservation DEFINATELY comes before orders. Get your own damn sammitch, slacker.

Oddly enough, this movie actually looks really good.

You mean I, Robot I assume. Yeah, I’d like to check that one out.

No it doesn’t. Read Isaac Asimov’s books.

I think he’s reffering to the natural order of things.

Except robots aren’t natural. They are created as inanimate servants of man, which is why the rules make more sense.

I’m just going by what I’ve been told. I’ve never read the book.

Oh. I thought he meant more like people, not robots. Because when push comes to shove, fuck the orders - I’m outta there.

I’ve heard of those!!

And I did notice the Robocop reference too. Loved that show when I was a kid.

Go watch Ghost in the Shell. The original one from the 80’s, not the most recent ones. It’s about an AI who demands rights equal to those given to humans. Humans get pissed at it because it stops obeying the Asimovian laws.

Well? People abusing the fact that robots had no discernable rights are the reason I’M here.

There is one other law - the zeroeth law, which is something to the effect ‘a robot must at all instances do what is best for all of humanity’. The Zeroeth law supercedes the other three, so robots are allowed to kill certain humans if doing so will help humanity in general.

4: Never harm an OCP officer.

So long as it’s better than Bicentennial Man.
