I think this could actually work. It would be difficult, but it could actually be pretty good…
Same guy that made the new Street Fighter movie. It’s gonna fucking suck ass.
This WILL BE A FUCKING DISASTER! Its getting made by the wrong people!
Yeah… I sense a great shitstorm in the force.
While the game is certainly cinematic, most of the charm comes from the ambiance and puzzle fights. It’s more of an experience than it is a game per se and the narrative is purposely vague… “difficult” is being kind. You’d need a really damn good director and writer to catch the game’s charm AND make a script to go with it.
Especially since most of the story is about a single guy and his horse. That’s gonna make for some lame dialogue, unless Argo speaks. In which case I totally want them to get Eddie Murphy to do the voice, Donkey was awesome.
…what? Hey, if they’re gonna mess it up, might as well get creative.
I thankfully don’t have any emotional attachment to this like I do with Cowboy Bebop, now that is terrifying.
Oh yeah…
…that. Yeah, that’s gonna be fun too.
JESUS CHRIST WHERE DID YOU GET THAT AWFUL PIC!?
I’m going back in time to jam a coathanger in Ms. Reeves’ cooch so this abortion will never be made.
Ugh, wrong director, wrong scriptwriter… wrong everything. This movie would be better done as an independent film. Just give a guy a camera in Wales or somewhere nice looking and go at it with a horse and a sword. That would be infinitely better than what this will unfortunately be. Not to mention the story is so BARE in the game itself… that game is 90% gameplay with some story thrown in to add reason for the function.
And Cowboy Bebop will be atrocious as well. The great thing is there will always be Shadows of the Colossus the game and Cowboy Bebop animation to enjoy, regardless of what happens to the IP.
But what a great Hollywood-clichéd movie would ICO become!
On more encouraging news the ICO/SoTC guy is working on a new game.
Does anybody know of any directors are both still alive and are not completely talentless and a total hack?
Clint Eastwood. (I’d say Woody Allen, but he’s not exactly pupular at home, no?)
I just don’t understand how these things even happen. Couldn’t they find someone to direct the movies that are somewhat in touch with the games?
Hell, you don’t even need that for Shadow of the Colossus. All you really need is someone who doesn’t rely completely on asplosions and shitty camera work to make a movie.
Frankly, I would love to see someone bring the fight between the wanderer and that one flying colossi to the big screen. I simply do not believe that these Syfy channel rejects could capture that.
The sad thing is, if this movie is actually made, I’ll probably see it.
Sigh…why do people even bother trying to make movies about video games when the majority of them end up as massive pieces of shit.
And maybe this is just me, but that Keanu pic looks photoshopped. Regardless, that Cowboy Bebop movie is looking to be a disaster.
Oh god no.
Why would they do this? Because of the immense success of all previous video game movies who all became masterpieces?
They do it because it’s a quick money grab. Fans go see the movies even though they know they’re going to be horrible, and they turn a profit. I just don’t understand how the writing and directing for these movies are so poor. Even with a low budget, it’s not difficult to provide fan service.
Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li was horrible. About half the people in the theater left before the movie was over. My girlfriend told me I had to have a romantic comedy movie weekend with her to make up for how bad it was.
It still grossed 9 million at the box office.
LockeJV: Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li cost $60 million to make, so your argument doesn’t really hold up.
That’s nine million more than it should’ve made.
