Looks like another reason to get a Nintendo DS. That, Castlevania, and Advance Wars look awesome. And hopefully the Shin Megami Tensei game comes out here too =D
…You know what? I’ll give it a chance. I never beat the original anyway, and if they can get the voices in the game, as well as make the graphics look subpar, I’ll be fine with it. Heck, the graphics look alright as is for a PSX port to the DS.
I haven’t played RE4 yet so I don’t know how great this shoulder view thing is. I’m one of those guys who has to wait for it to come out on the PS2. sigh
RE4 is a lot of fun, the only problem with it is that the story has pretty much no relation to the rest of the series. The sholder view works very well and makes the game much more actioned oriented as a reult.
Nintendo always does this sort of thing though. With the SNES, everything was “Super.” With the N64 is was all “Whatever 64” and with the GBA everything was “Advance.” I actually sort of like the the clever titles since Nintendo is still doing what it did before, but it is more than adding a word that doesn’t really have much meaning to it.
The game does tie in, if you finish it: The game starts years after CV. The STARS members (and friends) exposed Umbrella once and for all, and the world governments took them down. They seemingly disappeared. The government, seeing how much of a bad ass Leon was, sent him to proper Bad Ass School, where he became a huge bad ass, almost on par with a Redfield. He was then commissioned to look over the President’s daughter, but she was abducted on the day before he started. Eventually, you learn that the people who abducted her are trying to take over the world, and are using things that Umbrella funded, and may even be former ties to Umbrella themselves. What’s more, Ada Wong, from RE2, shows up to steal a sample for an organization that’s seemingly headed by Albert Wesker; an organization that already has the G-Virus. Thus, the game does tie in, just not as obviously as the others.
The point of RE4 was that it wouldn’t be a direct tie in to the events in the previous RE games. There are the various relations with similar characters, Wesker’s over all conspiracy, the mentioning of the virus outbreaks and even the parasite, as the original Progenitor Virus has been alluded to having been taken from a parasite in previous games. As the director himself said RE4 was more of a side story.
That was one of the main things that I liked about RE4. Because there were very little ties to umbrella and the old games, it seemed really fresh to me. I appreciated it.
Im impressed at how they can make chains of games with the same title, background, have little to do with the plot, still sell millions of copys AND still pretty much rock.I am definitely getting this one.
I would have liked a transition or something. Like have Re4 start out very RE-esque and then gradually build into something else. Then Re5 could have it little connection to the majority of the series.
It would have made more sense for Code Veronica to have been RE4. And to have RE4 have RE title but as a subtitle. Such as “Resident Evil: The Illuminados Conspiracy” or something along those lines.
