Our official DQ8 appreciation/help thread.

Okay, so I went back and explored some places I’d already been, and found the monster arena. I don’t know why I skipped that building all together. Anyway, after one quick little stint with it, I’ve finished rank C. I’m using the Stone Titan (found outside of Neos), the Jargon (found southwest of Trodain), and the Battle Rex (found north of Farebury). I also have the Goldman (found east of Neos), the King Slime (southwest of Argonia), and the Metal Slime (northeast of Port Prospect). I’ve also got a generic Slime and a generic Drakee, too. Does anyone know if there’s a place where I can get a Wyvern? I’m trying to get as many Dragon Quest 1 monsters as possible.

I guess next I’m after Phantom of the Chopera. Any clues as to where it is?

Yeah the colossus is insane. I got him yesterday afternoon.

Saturn: remember, you’re limited in the number of monsters you can have. I gotta say that it sucks because I like having a monster park.

And the macho dude disturbs me. He disturbs me greatly. Arrrrgh my eyes X_x.

Ew, and the hair on his chest added to the bulge in his pants? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I kicked out a couple this morning. BTW, has anyone beaten rank B yet, and, if so, any advice?

Monster arena is near Pickham, how’d you miss THAT?

Edit: Note to self: Get at least 2 rings of awakening for the Dark Ruins boss. He ripped me open by having the hero and Angelo in a sleep-lock.

Well, when I saw that building the first time, I didn’t notice the ramp on the side, so I just thought that guy was related to whatever it was that I was about to start doing. Then, after completing Pickham, I completely forgot that the house existed at all until recently.

Nope, got absolutely crushed when I tried Rank B. I was using Chopera, Talos, and Hackzilla. I beat the first fight, but Chopera died during it, and during the second fight, the Boss Troll Desperate Attack’d me to death.

Well, speaking of bulges in pants (hey, you brought it up first, ha ha), what’s up with the Hipster enemies? Talk about… odd.

I just finished Rank D tonight (I’ve been busy with books and my new Razr, whee). I’ve used the Hackzilla, Jargon, and the Redtailed Hipster - I have a fighting rooster, a metal slime, and a hoodlum in reserve. I really haven’t put too much time into monster catching, unless you count the time I spent chasing that stupid metal slime allover creation. I suppose I could go on into the Dark Ruins, but which level do you recommend? My hero and Yangus are 24, and Angelo and Jessica are 22.

Oh, and what’s up with my money? I feel that I never have enough. Strategies for making some more?

Gold Golems on the Holy Island of Neos are nice cash- they’re like 700 gold each. You can also use the Alchemy Pot to make some money. Recipes generally sell for more than the sum of the ingredients.

I’m about to go to the Dark Ruins, and my hero and Yangus are level 30, Jessica and Angelo are 29, but I’ve been fighting a lot and doing a bunch of random wandering, so my levels are a bit high I think. >_>

Sorry Saturn but you can’t get a wyvern for the arena. The Phantom of the Chopera is on the river path that you took to the hill that you originally opened the moonshadow window on. In case you don’t remember its the path behind the house that is across the bridge from the riverside church. He only appears at night though. I haven’t found a team yet that can beat class B, but I know some people at Slime Knights have beaten all the ranks including S which is against Morrie.

Also, the Siren enemies (and others of the same design) perform their best “puff puff” service on your characters. For those who haven’t played previous DQ games, or who can’t put two and two together, “puff puff” service is simply an innuendo for oral sex. The funniest part about this is if she uses this “attack” on Jessica, the response is “Jessica simply laughs, knowing that she’s won the battle of the bulges.”

That is amongst the funniest things I’ve ever seen in a video game, and thanks to Square Enix for translating it in either an accurate or amusing way.

No, it’s not high. You NEED 30ish to have a chance on the boss, the enemies are easy but the boss ain’t.

You also need some kind of anti-sleep spell on at least 2 characters, and cast it as SOON as someone is sleeped, else you’ll get stunlocked and it sucks. Rings of Awakening are also really handy.

I thought it was innuendo for like, a ‘breast job’, but shows what I know. Either way it results in a Huge Grin on someone’s face once in a while.

Ah ok. Ends up I’ve got to go to Argonia first anyhow. >_> I’ll make some Rings of Awakening for everyone before I try the boss then.

I had always heard that Puff Puff was a breast job like Zero heard, but I’m not completely sure on that. It’d explain the battle of the bulges part.

Puff Puff was always some vague sexual innuendo in past DQs, I’ve never really understood what it meant and I don’t think there’s any way anyone could’ve since its only “Puff Puff Puff Puff” + vague reference.

And yeah the isle of Neos is an endless source of money. Its the desert island in the middle of the world map.

The animation in DQ8 certainly implies it has something to do with breasts, but the text from the import DQ games, particularly the SFC ones, has always implied heavily that it was oral sex. Of course, it could just mean “generic sexual act.”

Still can’t do rank B, refined more gear and made awakening rings, will try again at lunch.

Didn’t the first few books of Dragonball also have a buff buff scene? >_>;

(And that one ended up with general nosebleeding)

Yes it did Maba, yes it did.

Also, Dark Ruins boss update: Awakening rings strategy works, the sleep still AFFECTS the characters (it is Boss Grade power) but they wake up at the slightest nudge, and don’t stay asleep until death or damn near it ensues as they used to.

Didn’t have time to finish the fight due to lunch having ended, but I know I can do it. Will try again tonight. For 2nd phase, Oomphed hero doing Miracle Slash literally keeps him alive without any extra healing, one less load for Angelo to bear.

Where do you get the mats for the rings anyway?

And Tom at Master Felix’ is how I pictured Mabat. Man its a whole lot more irritating than I had ever imagined. God I wanted to hit him
