Roxio bought Napster for some 5 mil last year. On Thursday they’re gonna start testing Napster 2.0. There’s gonna be some sort of big event in NY, with some 200 people from press & industries they invited.
You have to pay if you want to use the new Napster. The first one got to have 60 million users. But it was free, and the only one. Now that there are competitors and it’s not free anymore, I think they will be heroes if they get 10% of that.
That guy from Napster, something Oyster… Dammit I’m bad with names. Oyster said it’ll start with a catalogue of 500 thousand songs, and is confident that this new Napster is going to be “the strongest music service” or something like that of the internet. Haha. Kazaa, GNUtella, Morpheus etc. give all the same songs and more and do it for free =p
Good luck to these guys. Before being closed and sold they had already tried the same strategy and it was a crassian failure.
Well, Apple’s pay-per-song thing seems to be a big hit, so I wouldn’t write the concept off from the start. If there’s a big selection of songs, and one can get them without worrying about having to wait for 50 people in a queue, being sued, or undergoing slow download times, people might just think that it’s worth the price.
Sighs Oh, that’s right I have to start my paper on downloading music soon. I still don’t see the point of it. Get off you lazy asses go to the damn store, and BUY the music. You wouldn’t have to worry about getting sued at all then.
I’m not gonna buy a cd just for one song I like nor am I gonna buy singles since that just strikes me as stupid. Kazaa and all the other free filesharing programs have done wonders for the amount of cds I own, and only 6 of those are burned and those are copies of cd’s my friend bought.(Led Zeppelin - How the West was Won 1-3 and also Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti and Led Zeppelin 3. ) I do have 1 mp3 cd, and that has about every song I’ve ever downloaded or had on a cd.The rest of the cds in my collection I’ve bought, and I’ve bought alot.
Edit2-> Like I said before, I dont buy cds just because I know I like one song on them. What I will do though is get a few songs off that album and see if they also rock and if they do, I go buy the cd. If they dont, I delete them because they suck.
Edit3: Ach I forgot where I was going with this.
Edit:Argh, I hit enter and it posted.

If I like one song on a CD, I’d rather pay 2 bucks to download it than 20 to buy the CD with 15 other crappy songs on it.

Oh, plese I think the “I only like one song on the CD” excuse is really lame. I suppose if you pay for it though, it’ll be alright. People you that on Kazaa should have a conscience though.
Xero, the problem is exactly that. People download music at Kazaa because they can, simple as that. It’s not right doing so, but it can’t be stopped. It’s not like crimes IRL, which can be fought by the police. So we get this attitude that goes like “I know it’s wrong, but I won’t be caught, so…”
Oh please, I find the whole “I don’t get songs so I’m everyone’s voice of reason” thing really lame. I dont mind spending money, but I do have a problem with buying something thats gonna be a $15 coaster in a few days. Kazaa removes the waste of money on my part and keeps crappy “artists” from getting paid by me when I dont want to.
Edit: But, like I said, I buy CDs that have at least a few songs on them I like.
