I've been pondering death

Thats what I hate, I wish there was a less active title for somthing like this. Athiest is such an overused title and people cling to it as if that defines them as people. Lots of goth punks and what not… I’m none of that, I dont believe in anything besides good morals and using a surrealistic diety to preach the ideas just doesnt sit right with me. I dont want to be put in a pool of people who call them selves Athiests because that still pertains to a religeous belief. And my point is, I DONT have any.

Meh you believe in nothing, still a belief.

GAH, fine… But I still dont like associating with the “title” of Athiest. Not that its a bad thing, but theres too much “oooh hes/shes a heretic” crap associated with it from my experiences back where I grew up (REDNECK ASS KENTUCKY)…

Death probably results in oblivion, which no one can REALLY comprehend (here’s a Scott McCloud quote: “How can we imagine an end to imagining?”). But that doesn’t stop anyone, particularly me, from trying to come up with some stuff.

Note the difference between believing in nothing and against the belief of something. People throw the “believing in nothing is still a belief” crap too much. Saying that someone has some amount of apples does not include 0 apples. Saying that someone has a belief does not include the lack of a belief.

An atheist specifically does not believe in gods, or at least that’s what the word itself should mean.

Atheism means that one does not believe in gods, but that doesn’t mean that one does not follow a set of doctirines, beliefs, etc. that is connected to a religion. Buddhism and Unitarian Universalists can be considered Atheist because they have no deities. Irreligion, however, means that you follow no religious doctrine, but you can still believe in gods.

I try not to think of it as Theism vs. Atheism…but rather those who care about religion, and those who don’t give a flying flip about it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you, I am in that pool that Trillian mentioned, the ones who dont give a flying flip.

To say that an Atheist doesn’t believe in gods, isn’t true Atheism. A True atheist doesn’t say “I don’t believe in god” since that would signify that there is a god, only the person doesn’t reconize him, rather he says that such a belief is irrelivent

I call 'em as I see 'em. =)

http://www.atheists.org/ this is a friggin awesome pool of knowledge if you question your religeon. It will make more sense of WHY religeons are played out the way they are than what the religeon itself tries to teach. I especially loved reading the articles in the “Christianity” section about how Nazereth didnt even exist in the first century (when Jebus supposedly walked the earth). Have fun.

Thing is though, if were going to take this from an Athiest POV then lets say that Athiests believe that Gods exist, at least… As much so as a good fantasy character or mythical being like Zeus or Cerberus. Thing is, we cannot DENY that the diety is just that, a diety… However, we can deny that a Diety really IS somthing more than a fictional thing inspired by the wild imaginations of humans. So infact, gods exist, I’ll agree… However, I dont think they are “REAL” as far as making and breaking, light and dark, life and death, what not… You know what I mean? For an athiest to deny that a “GOD” exists is to deny things like Dragons and Gamer Girls (I mean, COME ON, are those even real?)… lol
But to put it short, Gods of today are just as much of a mith as Zeus… The only difference is, were in the “today” and people need thier GOD to justify things they dont understand or to fill some gap in their life. I think a great example of this is the way the game “Call of Cthulu” plays out. When a human sees somthing that they dont understand they will either go insane or find somthing more suitable for thier minds to grasp. Since were brought up being taught the ideals of the Christianity (seeing as how its the largest followed religeon in america I decided to use it as my example) we’d rather pass off the idea of NOTHINGNESS when we die, which is scarry as all shit, and replace it with a more calming safe idea… Heaven. I’m not saying it’s impossible for somthing supernatural to exist, just that its highly unlikely and more likely just the product of human fear.

I tell you not to post about aetheism, and what do you do? You post about aetheism.

This thread is now about whale sharks:

Whale Sharks are Fish.
They Eat Humans.

but i thought whales were mamels?
and sharks dont intend to eat humans if they see one they will swim up to it and see if its worth investigating and if not it willl swim away. :moogle:

I like whale sharks.

Why do they eat us? We’re salty and probably taste like crap on a stick to them.

Correction Hades,Whale Sharks do not eat humans, the eat you if you get in the way of there meal.

Are whale sharks the ones with the like, brushes for teeth and they just swallow a bunch of water and squeeze out the water and eat the shrimp and other stuff that couldn’t get through the bristles? If so, they don’t eat people. People even ride them.

Y’all know that Whale Sharks filter feed on plankton like baleen-whales, don’t you?

I was just quoting what my Psy professor told me.

Oh, and whale sharks friggen suck ass
