I need a job

Dammit, why does it seem like all the kids who want jobs don’t get them, while the ones (me) who don’t want jobs, get them! (Are forced to by their parents) Working isn’t all that fun. >.>;;

Well, I’ve found that working to your strengths is fun. I got a short stint at working at the local gym, and I loved it. …Concidering the girls clad in spandex. But seriously, just wait it out. Something you like will come up.

My job last year was plumbing, which sort of sucked because i hate physical labor, but in retrospect wasnt so bad.

I had a job at busch gardens in florida this summer. Had being the key word there, i just remembered i never got working papers, and thus am not allowed to work.

Wha? 16 is like the mandatory age here, you must do odd jobs, or work for your 'rents. What do you do?

EDIT: Thatw as to Swift and Ramza.

Dev did you work around dirty toilets? Ew!

Buh, no. I went to construction sites and put in the plumbing for the buildings that were being built. Everyone thinks that though.

I know. We uneducated people assume that  I was just teasing.

As lame as it sounds from a man who will be 22 this year…I don’t have a job. But that will change this year, even so my past attempts to put applications out went without any response. Maybe I should put one out at the local Krogers, as it only about a mile away from here, and pretty clean most of the time…

The first job I had was as a secretary at a summer school. i did it for two years. I know from that experience that I’m not cut out for public relations jobs. I just can’t keep smiling at an asshole asking stupid questions or have unreasonable demends. The good thing about my tech support job is that I don’t have to be face-to-face to them.

Lucky for you missy, you don’t yet have the opportunity to be a bum college grad with a monsterous student loan.

Unfortunately I’m heading close to that path, so goodness.

My first job was a waitering job at an something like an assissted living center. It was pretty easy, there was a set menu every day, I just took the orders, put them in to the kitchen, took more orders, had the food I needed dished up and served it to whoever ordered it. It wasn’t every difficult at all, once you got the timing and your speed down.

Really, the best way to get your first jobs is through friends. If you have any friends with any jobs then ask them where they work, and if it’s anything you’re interested in doing then ask them to reccomend you to their boss and get you an application. Honestly, getting a job is so much easier if you have someone on the inside telling them how much of a good worker you are.

Aww, thanks Charl. <.<

Eva, I know what you mean about the restaurant thing. I don’t think I could stand being a waitress. As for my job right now, it’s pretty cushy… I get a computer, e-mail address, comfy chair, and a kitchen stocked with food. ;D So, yeah, being a receptionist isn’t half-bad.

WEll right now, I work as a “temp”. (Quotes for indefinate job)

IF you have a hard time finding something and don’t mind a little bit of manual labor or office drone bit, it pays fairly decently for someone in school, depending on the job. And it’s pretty easy to get out of when nessecary. One guy working where I am works summers between college terms…

You guys are lucky. No one in this dump we call a town is hiring. Then again, I’m the last person they’d want to hire if I have to deal with customers on a regular basis…

I just got my first job a couple of months ago. You just have to be patient Eva, and hope someone likes you resume to hire you.

And if that don’t work, just keep badgering some place you’d like to work, until they give in. And give you a job.

Anyway, good luck, Eva.

Thanks guys. Astral has convinced me being a receptionist has to pay off :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Therefore I am going to try my luck around town to find places which include secretorial work. I just thought I was too young, but it can’t hurt to try asking around and quizzing people on where they work. I don’t like this job of job hunting, dammit.

I got my first job when I was 14 (no one imposed it on me, I did it because I wanted to get my own money back then). I translated techmanuals from English to Portuguese & the other way around. I still do it sometimes.

Eva, I think you should work at a zoo, a pet shop or anything else involving animals. Seems more like you than any other job.

edit: just read theother posts, Astral’s idea is the best one.

What a coincidence! I need a girl to pay to pretened to be my girlfriend. How does starting wednesday sound?

Depends on the tasks, man. My boyfriend would beat me up, and you too.

I applied over a month ago to 7 different places. One of them said “thanks for applying, we’ll see if we have any work for you” about a month later and I haven’t heard from the rest. The only reason I have a job right now is because my aunt helped me get it. Trying to find a summer job is a real pain. I temped last summer, and the pay was decent, $8-9/hr., but I only had work for about 10 days the entire summer.

You can have mine - I hate it.
