I got a job at a pizza restaurant two weeks ago. It’s 7-hour succession of serving tables, smiling, washing dishes and cleaning, I get home at about 3 am, and even though I’m famous for being a real lazy bastard, it feels strangely nice. I don’t know if it is the fact that I’m actually doing SOMETHING besides laying on my bed and stuffing my mouth with junk that for some unknown reason doesn’t make fat or sick, maybe it’s the social contact from which I usually hide like a pathetic worm, or maybe it’s the ten bucks per day plus tips that I make, but I like working.
It was a curious sensation to have money in my hands that I actually earned; not got as a reward for my grades, not as a present but from actual sweat (Literally, I had to cut mozzarella right beside the oven. Pretty hot). Okay, who the hell I’m kidding? The 140 bucks I did really rock. Curiously, the first time in my life I have a decent amount of money on my name, I have no idea of what to do with it. Maybe I’ll just save and buy a PS2.
If I ever got around to it, I could get a job at Toys R Us, or something, but I’ve heard horror stories about jobs from my friends. It’s surprising to hear something positive about working.
Working is nice, as long as you’re not overworked or underpaid (or both). I always get a thrill to hold a decent sized paycheck in my hand, knowing that I can now use it all to pay my bills and my eating habits. (I’m actually pretty good at saving… which gives me a bigger thrill since I know my bank account’s growing twice a month ;D)
That’s awesome that you like your job. Jobs actually have alot of cognitive benefits as well… Something called the “spillover hypothesis”… So the challenges you face and overcome at work kind of carry over to school and life in general… which makes it doubly beneficial! (you can tell I just came from a psych final ;P) As long as they treat you well and pay you adequately, stick with it, and you’ll garner some long term improvements.
It’s a nice feeling, to have a job and to enjoy working. I like it because of the feelings of independence and responsibility it gives me - it’s a sort of proof that yes, I can take care of myself and provide for myself, and yes, I can actually use my knowledge and skills to perform a function in the real world.
It’s cool that you like working. I hope that someday we can all find jobs that we find ourselves getting up in the morning and looking forward to doing. (yes, I do that too - just because I like working doesn’t mean that I necessarily enjoy my job the way it is, lol)
Okay guys, just hold it. I don’t wake up in the morning and say “Hey, I have to work! Great!”, some days (Fridays and Saturdays) are a real bitch that leave me feeling like some unknown creature just sucked all my energy, not to mention the stinkin’ smell of cigarette I allways have on me (I don’t smoke, if haven’t guessed), but from all the activities that I realized for an actual benefic purpose, It’s the best.
I like my job, and I work as kitchen help in a Seniors home. I have a good relationship with all the student workers there, my boss is probably the nicest lady alive, and I get a certain sense of satisfaction from helping out the old folks. Sometimes you find job satisfaction in the most unassuming places.
I agree with you muchly SE…I loooove being lazy and doing nothing but I like keeping busy and making some money for myself too, sometimes. Also agree with Vickimints about the independence thing. Sidewinder said the most helpful thing though-invest. Ayuh, intelligent, you are.
I so want to get a job at my local Gamestop too. If only to shop the coplete retards there how to serve a customer correctly. Alas, the lack of a liscence and a car make that dream a hard one to attain.
I really should look for something like that over here. Maybe that way I’ll get a few loose pieces back in place and have some fun in the meantime. :hahaha;
