Hollywood: "Okay, four years is enough. Let's make $$$ outta 9/11!"

Charming, isn’t it?

The film, which as of now is to be called, simply, “World Trade Center,” tells the story of two Port Authority police officers, John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno, who were the last two rescue workers pulled from ground zero alive. It is billed as an uplifting story about everyday New Yorkers helping one another amid a cataclysmic tragedy.

And, I’m certain, smarmy love stories and cute children spouting wisdom about American patriotisism.

Christ on a stick.

…How depressing.

The Discovery Channel already made a flight about 9/11. Well, United Airlines Flight 93, the one that passengers took back from the hijackers and eventually crashed in Pennsylvania. But oh well. I’m sure movies about Pearl Harbor were spit out pretty quickly.

I’m honestly suprised it took this long.

Yeah, well at least Tora Tora Tora is worth the time.

…Almost.

MACBETH

Meh, that’s America for you. Death, destruction, maiming and pain = Good profit!

:kissy:

I can see see the reviews now.

Permission to Sprite? It will be hard to keep track of each train of thoughts otherwise.

There was this TV series about new york policemen (I believe it was about firefighters too) which made a special about 9/11 where the characters from the series were in the rescue teams sent to help people get out of the towers. So this isn’t new.

I suppose I’ll have to take a “wait and see” stance with this. It could be done tastefully and not too schlockily, in which case it’d be no worse than your average WW2, Pearl Harbor, or Titanic inspired film.

On the other hand, it could be Triumph of the Will / Birth of a Nation Lite.

One way or another and even in a political vacuum, this film will probably bring the suck.

EDIT: oooooooooooooooooh shit.

Oliver Stone’s Ground Zero set is a reminder to those working on the film just how grim the subject is.

Hmm, Oliver Stone directing…

“As you can see, the debris from the South Tower went back and to the left. Back and to the left. Back, and to the left.” >.>

Anyway, if South Park is right, in 17 years or so, 9/11 will be officially funny.

it may not be new, but damn. kind of insensitive on the part of family members and those who experienced it. but hey, it’s hollywood. i’ve come to expect all kinds of sh*t to be pumped out about pretty much anything and everything, so i can’t say i’m really surprised…

… No comment. Seriously.

On one hand, 4 years is plenty… Look at how well people liked team america (people who didnt have their panties in a wadd, that is…)

However, on the other hand… 2004 years (Passion came out last year, right?) isnt enough… Look at Passion of the Christ and how there were still skeptics…

Oh well, can’t please everyone so ya might as well make money off of the people you can please.

Us Amerrcans are all filthy capitalist pigs! It doesn’t matter if you’re being insensitive as long as you’re making a profit. And if it’s a good movie, in a few years, no one’ll care whether it was wrong or not.

¬_¬;

If I was in charge, I would just re-release “The Towering Inferno” on DVD and put a “Special 9/11 Addition” sticker on it. However I’m not in charge, and I’m not really offended by a 9/11 movie.

I think americans get sensitive about shit for the soul purpose of complaining. Like, 1 out of 20 people who bitch about something like this were ever really affected by it…

The only damn reason I got upset about 9/11 was because the airport security got to a RETARDED level. They fucking snapped some of my art pencils in two because the graphite set off the alarms.

Just stupid shit like that pisses me off.

I knew it. It’s just as my dad said when that was still news.
“In a few years there will be a movie about it, just like titanic; and we’ll see a lone hero trying to stop the terrorist. And then while the plane crashes into the tower we’ll see the seat rows being mashed one by one while weeping couples say good bye too each other.”

I hate it when he’s right. -_- So let’s hope he isn’t and that this movie is atually something different from all those kinds of movies.

the movies being one of, if not the, primary cultural activity of the united states, i don’t see why this should surprise anyone, or be frowned at.

however, im sure the movie will be horrible, which i will frown at myself.

there’s no surprise i don’t think, just shock it’s been done already. i’m just saying, there’s three reasons i think it shouldn’t have been done.

  1. all the survivors and fmaily members and friends went through 3 months of hell every time they turned the tv or radio on when it actually happened
  2. Now they can relive it again! yays for them, yeah?
  3. They can hear about people who played them or their friends. the people who weren’t affected and could really care less about the person they’re portraying.

but, i s’pose it had to happen sometime. whoever said that about making a profit however we can…well…this is america…
