Hollywood: "Okay, four years is enough. Let's make $$$ outta 9/11!"

Why on earth are pople shocked and appaled? This is what always happens and what will always happen as long as we’re twisted enough to actually like watching tragedies.

not shocked at the fact they did it, just shocked at how much insensitivity it takes to do something like that. still as has been pointed out numerous times…only america…

It’s Oliver Stone. He can very well make the movie be a nice tribute and not insensitive. I looked it up, and the first Pearl Harbor movie was made just a year after it happened. It doesn’t look like Oliver Stone is going to use it to disgrace anyone’s memories. But because the subject is taboo, the film is considered wrong and insensitive no matter how good and innocuous it is.

I mean, if we’re seriously not going to make movies on any bad events in history which survivors might see, we’d be missing MANY great movies. Schindler’s List for one. The Holocaust was much worse than 9/11. Philadelphia, a film concerned with aids and homophobia, two VERY taboo subjects, was released to acclaim reviews and a couple of Oscars. JFK, another Oliver Stone film, was concerned with a rather taboo subject, and I believe it was released to good reviews. I’m sure Black Hawk Down could be considered insensitive, but I thought it was a good movie.

Honestly, how long are we to say the window of insensitivity is open? If a movie is beautifully crafted and does nothing to disparage those that died, I see no reason why it can’t be made now (especially since it won’t be released for probably another year at least given production timetables). If some families don’t wish to see the movie because it’s too painful for them, they don’t have to see it. One should not be able to lay claim on an event solely because a family member died from it. If that were true, then we honestly would’ve missed out on some good, powerful movies.

The big problem is that, unlike Titanic, the majority of this movie’s target audience will already know how it ends <_<

you mean there are/were people who didn’t know Titantic’s ending? wasn’t that kind of an internatioanl news item?

They are probably the same people who still believe there is a God guiding the world. laughs

:kissy:

i’m thinking it didn’t matter what they believed about God had anything to do with whether or not they knew about the Titantic. they’re completely unrelated.

There exist anecdotal stories of teenage girls going to Titanic and crying at the end saying stuff like “omg, that movie was SO good. But why did the ship have to sink. ;_;”

I do that!

o wow…that’s both funny and sad at the same time.

You’ve obviously missed my analogy; allow me to spell this out for you in a clearer manner: Ignorance.

:kissy:

for as much as you think religion is ignorance, i think atheism is ignorance. so call it settled, yeah? unless you wanna keep going…dang, broke my rule again.

I actually heard this myself from a crowd of girls when my mother dragged me to the cinema. I laughed so hard it almost made putting up with the 3 hours of fluff worth it. Almost.

On the same note, the girl who was sitting right next to me during Troy never heard about the horse.

I think 984’s hit the issue on the head. Also the article I’ve read on the topic essentially showed people being uneasy, but felt that it was a story worth telling if it wasn’t hollywoodized. If you want another taboo subject, Spielberg’s making a movie on the Palestinan conflict. I’m really interested in hearing what he has to say about that.

well, i spose that’s mostly what i’m worried about is the whole thing getting “hollywoodized” as you said.

And this, folks, is why Eden99 is my best friend.
You make me giggle

Oh, and uh… rararar movie bad blah blah people died blah blah wahmbulance.

does that explain the we should be lovers thing above your avatar?

Steve :heart:you:heart:!

Hardly settled, since I’m not an atheist. :stuck_out_tongue: As religion, especially Christianity, is such a constrained ideology, I doubt that I would ever be able to permeate your protective bubble of religiosity. So I won’t even bother a discussion with you on the subject. =)

God Bless!

:kissy:

What about us Eden? I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING MAN! ;-;

Also, organized religion, grr.

And as for the movie…eh, I probalby won’t go to see it, but it could be interesting.

It’s an inside thing with someone very close to me :x
