Seriously, i find dagger the lamest name for a character, and a female one at that, me and all my ff friends just called garnet…well, garnet, it kinda pisses me off when people refer to garnet as dagger cause it takes me a few seconds to remember who that actually is lol
from my knowlage it is actually the only character who has a massive name change made by square and not by yourself, correct me if im wrong, its just that untill u get through the ice cavern u know her as garnet then theres a massive name change i find it quite…dumb, and yes i know its to hide her identity, but even if u call her garnet again it doesnt change the storyline lol
what did u call garnet…or dagger…or WHATEVER!
and what do you think about the name change
First Time called her “Gemma” Cause, She was the Girl I as going out with at the time I First Started FF6 and FF9. (Terra was also Gemma). After Sword of Mana/FFA, I decided not to. I can not remember whom I call Garnet, on this time. (The Memory card KO’d 2 years ago, with the Only save of FF6 and 9 on it)
How the phuck do you KO a memory card? I better watch out because i dont want all those hours of my life to go to waste
I keep my PS1 memory cards in my little clear box in my room so they wont get dusty and they have the dust protectors on. And i have my ps2 memory card in my ps2
I…uh…keep all the names default for RPGs. If I change the default I always forget who people are speaking of if there’s a conversation going on about them.
this is too true, ff7 i changed the names the first time and couldn’t read a lot of walkthroughs cause i couldn’t remember the names, i stopped after that with the exception of tidus, i called him El Nino, after cloud and squall the weather was getting worse…
It was a faulty one that I didn’t know it at the time I bought it, and My brother, Deleted My saves off his memory card So He could Play GT2. (It was pre FFX by the way, We hadn’t got GT3 or a PS2). I got a replacement, but after Loosing 30 hours of RPGing, and 5 hours of GT2.
I called her Dagger. If she wanted to reinvent herself, she’s got every right to do so, and a name change is one of the most obvious ways to do it. Besides, since I kept the default name, all the characters called her Dagger, so it’d be silly if I didn’t. 8p
Yeah, Zidane and the others simply refer to her as Dagger. Steiner is the only character who doesn’t, he calls her Princess. Anyways, FFX didn’t give the option for choosing character names because it had voice acting instead(I wonder if in the future the FF games will give the option to play through the game with just the subtitles and without the voice overs and choose the names of the characters). You were only allowed to choose the name for Tidus and the Aeons, but none of their names are said in the game. The characters simply refer to the aeons as aeons(notice that Braska’s Final Aeon didn’t have a name). They speak to Tidus, but never asked him for his name or said his name(Auron and Jecht didn’t call him by his name either). And so they never know his name, nor do they know his name in FFX-2. I don’t know why they bothered letting you choose Tidus’s name, since other RPGs using voice overs don’t let you choose the name of the main character(Kingdom Hearts and Tales of Symphonia, for example). I also don’t know why they didn’t give the characters last names. It’s kinda weird.
The answer to why they don’t have last names is simple, they didn’t have the memory in earlier games, and they’re just following tradition with the newer ones. FFX had a lot of nuances to older games, mostly the ability to name the main character.
I actually like it when they don’t give you the choice to pick the main character’s name, except maybe if it’s one of those Make A Character games, but most japanese rpgs aren’t about making your own adventurer
I could not stand caling her Dagger. it jsut grated on me. I tended to give her a name based on another part of ehr name - Alexandros. Shortened jsut to Alex. Only problem is, now I keep associating her with Alex Mack, from the old Nick Show. meh.
She’s one of the few constant name changes I keep for characters. There’s some I keep just because I['ve done so for ages, and it jsut seems like tradition now - biggest oens I can think of are renaming the cast of Chrono Trigger to give them vaguely-latin names. Luman, Glavi, Flami, Aqua, Machi, Vista, and Umbra. I dunno, me sister came up with it first, and I liked it. But I ramble.
And on the topic of characters with last names: Cecil harvey, Kain Highwind, and Rosa Farrell. Nuff said. Although, did they ALWAYS have thos names, or are those a recent addition? Ell if I know.
I didn’t like the name “Dagger” either. It was silly. I like it when my games are cliche and not downright ridiculous. It was a bit too fairytale for me.
FF5 was the first RPG I recall that had last names (which was pretty old-school). The last names from FF4 have been around for a while, but were never confirmed as “official” until now, I think.
