FF Tactics Help

Im in chapter 4 at the Limburry Castle. I want to steal Elmdor’s Genji Armor. Is there anything thing else i should do.

Also, can you invite into your party apandas ( at the first battle there) and the 2 female ninjas that help Elmdor?

Im not having any prob beating this, i just want sugestions on how to better get these things done.

Thanks.

You want to boost the speed of your thief as much as possible, as I believe that is the key statistic for stealing stuff. Caste Haste on him and Slow on Elmdor and see how it goes.

I don’t believe you can invite Cecilia and Lede into your party; I think the ability only works on unamed enemies.

Even better, get Mustadio to Snipe him.

Ah God, I wish you could invite Celia and Lede. Not even Orlandu would be able to beat those two if used properly. But no, sorry. I’m not sure if you can invite the Apandas, but it’s a waste of time since if you do the Deep Dungeon you can get Byblos, the Ubber-Apanda.

Besides stealing Elmdor’s shit, there is something else you could do: learn Ultima. It’s easier in the battle at the gate since you want to focus on stealing the Genji stuff on the Elmdor battle.

The only one that can learn Ultima is Ramza in his Squire form (That means he MUST be using the Squire as his main class). What you have to do is equip items (I don’t remember which ones) that protect you from their attacks like Stop “Bracelet” (It’s “Breath” you idiots! You even made the same mistake with Reis’ attacks and all the assasins in FFTA!) or charm and get Ramza to get really close to them (Have the rest of the team crush the Apandas in the meantime, shouldn’t be too hard with Orlandu). Since their normal attacks can’t hurt you, they’ll either do a normal attack or use Ultima on Ramza. All you have to do is survive the attack (It’s not too though) and bingo. Next you just get one of them to critical state and you’re done. Be VERY careful not to get either one of them critical before you get the spell.

What’s Ultima? It’s a spell that only Ramza’s Ubber-Squire class can use (I heard that Alma can learn it during the last battle too). It’s not too powerful and the range kinda sucks, but since you probably use Guts as a secondary ability (“Scream” turns Ramza into a meat-shredder only second to Orlandu), it’s nice to have around.

Ultima is not really worth the effort. I got it both times I went through the game, and it just doesn’t do enough damage to be useful. I do agree that sticking with Ramza’s squire class is a good idea though, as he gets Scream and a couple other decent abilities.

Kill 2 females (they’re actually “dancers” but they don’t have dance skills, much much worse) and they’ll turn into demons. Kill the demons. Then if you have at least 3 characters with steal, (you should), go for it. Make sure you have the appropriate accessories for the fight. An interesting idea is using Equip Change to make yourself more immune to Elmdor’s attacks like Bloodsuck after taking care of Celia and Lede (who have their own attacks you want to watch out for). It should take a while to steal all the Genji equipment. Start with the sword.

so to sum up:
screw the apandas
no luck on the dancer twins
use time magics against Elmdor to steal
get ultima on Ramza

any other things?

Time Magic has NO bearing on steal %, though it helps in getting more steal attempts before the enemy goes. Also, you can’t invite any character with a unique class. Ever. This includes Assassins, Arc Knights, etc.

Stealing the Genji equipment is fairly easy if you know what you are doing. Here is my strategy:
[ul][li]Equip every male character with 108 Gems, every female with Chantage and Ribbon.
[/li][li]Kill the Assassins. The demons they turn into are slow enough that you don’t have to be in too much of a hurry to kill them, though they are weak enough to kill quickly anyway.
[/li][li]Speed is directly tied to Steal success, but ONLY the Speed parameter in the character’s status screen. This means Haste/Slow/Stop doesn’t matter, as said before.
[/li]

Steal Helmet Success % = Speed + 40
Steal Armor Success % = Speed +35
Steal Shield Success % = Speed +35
Steal Weapon Success % = Speed +30
Steal Accessory Success % = Speed +40

[li]Speed Break Elmdor to 1 Speed ASAP.
[/li][li]Yell at your thief (preferably female for Chantage/Ribbon immortality, female Sagittarius is even better) before and during the steal attempts.
[/li][li]Steal Elmdor’s shield first, it increases your steal % for the rest of his stuff.
[/li][li]The sword isn’t a priority, because even without his sword he uses Sword Spirit, and I have never had him physically attack me (Blood Suck notwithstanding).[/ul]
[/li]
I had ZERO trouble learning Ultima, stealing Elmdor naked, and completely controlling the entire battle using this strategy. My thief wasn’t even Sagittarius, either.

EDIT: Click on the Battle Mechanics Guide for a long but very good look at FFT calculations.

ok, if ure formula for percentage is correct, then why am i getting percentages of 5?

Chantage and ribbon, where the hell do you get them from? i have a Barret and a Chantage, not 2 or 3 like you are saying.

I agree on the shield thing, you get it, you get him.

How exactly do you get the girls to cast ultima? ive only had it cast once in three battles ive done. ive got ramza as a squire, but cant get it on him?

And what the heck does being a Sagittarius have to do with anything?

It’s been a while since I played so I don’t remember about the Ribbon, but you could stal a Chantage from Meliadoul when you faced her and I think there’s another one in Deep Dungeon. BE SURE TO GET A CHANTAGE, it makes any female character (I.E. Agrias) completely invincible.

Make sure that Ramza is the only character close to them. Equip Move +2 (Or +3 if you have it) to get him close to them as soon as possible. Remember that you only have to get one of the girls critical for the battle to end, so don’t worry too much about loosing HP.

Check each character’s sign on the status screen and you’ll read something about “compatibility”. Some characters with a certain sign work better against characters of a certain sign. I never paid too much attention to that, though.

Steal is subject to evasion. Elmdor has Blade Grasp and high Brave, so he will be hard to steal from if you don’t lower it using Foxbird or Threaten. Sorry, I should have said that in my first post, it just slipped my mind.

Foxbird/Threaten to 0 Brave (no chicken though :frowning: ) + Sleep (or steal from behind him) counters all of his evasion, I think.

Chantages and Ribbons are poached from Porkies and Wildbows, respectively. I invited a Uribo in the Goland Coal Mine, then poached the offspring.

Assassins usually cast Ultima only when their target would die from it, and is immune to Stop/Dead (Ribbons/108 Gems). If your thief is female, give her a Ribbon and Chantage and she will be immortal. If she dies from something, she’ll come back to life in Critical state, and an Assassin will probably cast Ultima on her if given the chance. Just move Ramza right next to the thief and wait. Voila. (This is for the Elmdor battle, but the basic idea works perfectly in the prior battle, though I didn’t try to learn it there so I’m not as experienced with it)

A female Sagittarius has the BEST Zodiac sign compatibility for Elmdor, who is a male (more or less) Gemini. I really hope you know about Zodiac Compatibility Modifiers by now, if you are all the way to Elmdor.

Actually, all you have to do to force Ultima is make Ramza inmune to their attacks, his health doesn’t matter at all. Believe me, you are better off just sending him in alone because Loskel’s strategy requires too much calculating (It may be accurate, but it’s way too much trouble for a skill you are never going to use).

People actually pay attention to Zodiac signs?

I didn’t mean Ramza’s health, I meant anyone’s. Sure they cast Ultima in many different situations, but they almost always cast it on a Critical unit. If you happen to have one, they’ll probably cast it on it. Then you just put the unit near Ramza somehow. It isn’t exactly rocket science.

How do you make Ramza “immune to their attacks”? Males can’t wear the things that make a completely immortal person, because Angel Rings wear off after one use. If you have 108 Gems on him and put him in battle alone, he could still just plain die. Twice. Then you’re screwed. Plus, if your Ramza happens to be a Sagittarius he will have the worst possible steal chances. Unless you are just talking about just learning Ultima, and not the Genji stealing. You don’t specify, so I’m not sure.

I meant immune to the special skills. And if Ultima is enough to kill Ramza in one shot then you better go buy yourself some decent armor and do some leveling up. I’m all for strategy but unless you are doing a challenge, you have to draw the line where it’s simpler to just spend five minutes in Mandalia Plains using Yell.

I just remembered, you have to equip an N-Kai Armlet and Black Costume, that way all their skills minus Ultima are useless and they’ll be forced to cast it on you.

um, ya…

no i dont. i know there is something to it, but ive never bothered with it. for me, it would take too long.

ok, new thing, whats another character class to use to steal other than thieves, as their health sucks.
heres my plan at the moment
*Ramza as squire with steal
*good strong guy with steal (class unknown, but he knows all the offensive non-magic ones really good)
*Orlando as holy knight
*strong girl as either a ninja, thief, or samuri (shes the main person i want to steal with, and is practically mastered with all three of these classes) with steal
*Magic support person (female) with all calculator abilities

several questions though, is it better to have n-kai armlets or 108 gems (to respectivly block Stop or Blood suck)?
with this, i intend to have change equipment ability on, but which should i start with?

and for getting ribbons/ chantages via urbos, where do you find them in the wild?

A lot of your questions can be answered by looking on GameFAQs. Your questions might be answered quicker and better if you checked there.

The Uribos are a rare breed unfortunately, only appearing in Story Battles in Finath River, Dolbodar Swamp, the Colliery Underground Second Floor, Zigolis Swamp, and in some of the battles in the Deep Dungeon. Assuming you haven’t invited one in the four story battles that have a chance of Uribos appearing, and you can’t go into the Deep Dungeon until long after the Elmdor battle, I think you’re out of luck.

Just put a Chantage on either your thief or Agrias, and bring a Chemist to counter the other status effects. It won’t be as effective as having Ribbons (or Cachusha, for that matter), but it’ll have to do.

For the Elmdor battle you should block Blood Suck, since Orlandu and Agrias can kill Celia and Lede quick enough to prevent them from bothering you.

The male Generic character should be a Knight, since that’s one of the best ones for defense and endurance.

The female Generic should also be a Knight, but if for some reason you want to stick to her mastered classes, the Samurai has the best defense.

Forget about Ramza’s squire from now on, if you learnt Ultima just change to a better job.

So, did it work?

yeah, have a knight with two swords and speed break his ass to 1 as well as foxbirding him. no problem, though it still might take a while.

am i the only person who doesnt use orlandu (or any special guy) because i think its more fun?

Nah, I didn’t use Orlandu either, nor any of the other special characters(except for Ramza). I thought it was funner to use my own characters that I’ve leveled up myself.

Wow, this sounds so helpful. I’ll try your ideas out, and get back to you on if they work.

Yes. The Zodiac Signs are very important. Because of my playing style, I always get custom-made generic characters, with Zodiac signs to correspond with Ramza’s.

And speaking of Ramza, forget the whole “Knight-Monk-Ninja-Whatever” path. Sure, he gets strong that way, but try him as a wizard. Get him the right equipment and he’ll plow through enemies faster than Orlandu.

Class: Summoner
Right Hand: Faith Rod (Found in Deep Dungeon) (Permanent “Faith”)
Left Hand: Wizard Rod (Because any wizard worth his **** has one)
Head: Flash Hat (Bonus to Speed and Magic Power)
Body: Robe of Lords (Also found in Deep Dungeon) (+2 Physical, +1 Magic, Always: Protect, Shell)
Accessory: Genji Gauntlet/Magic Gauntlet (For Bonus +2 to Magic)

Primary Ability: Summon
Secondary Ability: Math Skill
Reaction Ability: HP Restore/Blade Grasp (You choose)
Passive Ability: Two Swords (For both Rods mentioned above) Or Short Charge (For quick summons)
Movement Ability: Whatever you wish.

Ramza becomes a… well, not a tank… more like a demi-god. He can wipe the board CLEAR in one attack, Cure 1 heals for more than 300 HP, AND, if you take Short Charge instead of Two Swords, Summon Zodiac in 2 turns!

Orlandu, nothing!
