Exactly how is cosplaying “failing at life?” I thought life was about finding happiness. If these people are happy cosplaying, more power to them, I say. For all you know, they’re happier than you are.
But is life about finding what makes one person happy, or what makes the MOST people happy, Wil? Cosplaying makes a small subset of a population happy, while it saddens or drives insane a large amount of the population. 
Life is about doing what you want…
