In Empire space, practically every system has stations. Out in 0.0 space, stations are a few and far between. Depending on where you go, of course.
You trained battleships before battlecruisers? Good look getting the 140+ million you’ll need for the ship + insurance + fittings running level 2 missions! And don’t forget the few weeks you’ll need to train up weapons, armour, mechanic, propulsion, em warfare, and electronic skills to play in it effectively. Better get your scams up and running. 
Cless transvering automatically happens. It’s not a skill you learn via a skillbook, it’s one you personally learn how to do via practising. It’s your speed relative to your opponent when you pass them, nothing more.

Okay Cless and Steve asked so here’s how to scam.
Ore Theiving
Simplest form of ore thieving there is. Find someone who’s jetcan mining (mining and transferring all the ore they’ve mined directly into a jettisoned can) and just walk up and take it. This is simple and easy and they can’t shoot you since if they do Concord will kill them.
Bait 'N Switch
Take an objec that looks like another object and sell it to someone. This works best with ships that have the same model, like the Merlin (cost 100k) and the Harpy (cost 11mil). Just rename it to ‘Your Harpy’ and hope the man’s dumb enough not to check it. This needs someone really stupid though and takes a while and I hate doing it.
For the last two you REALLY need to create two alts and then just let them sit there for a week or so, just to make it slightly less obvious your character is solely for the purpose of scamming.
Bookmarks 1: Direct
Go into Local and shout “Selling instas to all major and 0.0 systems!” or something like that. When someone messages you arrange to trade somewhere they hand over a bunch of Small Secure Containers. Empty of course.
Bookmarks 2: Escrow
Make a bookmark to wherever you are and then shift-click and drag a hundred copies into your Items hanger. Make sure they’re all named something innoculous like ‘Bookmark’. Then put them all in the Escrow (under Missions in a station) with a 50mil price tag and a name like ‘INSTAS TO ALL 0.0 LAST CHANCE TO BUY xxxNO SCAMMERS PLZxxx’ Since people can’t check where the bookmarks lead they need to take a chance. This is easy because it takes five minutes to set up half a dozen and there’s usually some poor bastard who bites. This is my preferred method.
WOOO, I have been informed of a REVOLUTIONARY new mining system which will allow YOU (us) to make MILLIONS with NO EFFORT! The only catch? It’s in 0.0 space.
Jennai’s 0.0 Mining Method
Here’s what you need:
[ul][li]One guy with a hauler, a frigate with a lot of high slots, Mining IV skill and the money to buy Mining Laser IIs.
[/li][li]A second guy with a frigate.
[/li][li]A set of instas to and from whatever asteroid belt and station you want to mine in.
[/li][li]A 0.0 system with low player-traffic, an asteroid belt with Dark Ochre/Crokite AND at least one NPC station.
[/li][li]Time.
[/li][/ul]
Here’s how it works: Find an asteroid belt in an empty 0.0 system with Crokite/Dark Ochre asteroids at least 150km apart. Now the miner drops some jetcans next to two of them and bookmarks their location, aligns themself to the other asteroid they’re not at and starts mining. The spotter stays at least 200km away from every asteroid.
Now, whenever pirates appear, wait until they get close them warp to the second asteroid. Start mining again. Repeat this until you get bored/both jetcans are full. Now go get your hauler. This is where the spotter comes in, so he can tell the hauler which jetcan to go to. Get the ore, take it back, refine it.
Now for the tricky part. Get the 40k-odd Zydrine into your hold and use your instas (NOT YOUR AUTOPILOT) to get back into the closest 0.4+ space you can. Now sell it. Over 40k of Zydrine/Megacite will sell for over 60 million isk in Jita.
This will take you maybe an hour or two, but the rewards of a cargohold-full of Zydrine will be more then worth the risk of losing a hauler or two.

Well it took us a good couple of hours to get set up (sorry Taran) and Cless’s decided to go back, but I stuck it out and farmed 250 units of the ore, enough to refine once. The result?
1.5 Million isk.
Now if we’d had a Badger and three or so people mining into it and took that back to Empire we could have made ten times that easily.
