Auto-Name in FF1+2 for GBA *SPOILERS*

I just noticed something; try selecting Auto-Name during the character creation process in FF1+2 GBA. Some of the random names for the character classes are from various other FF games (most of which are from the ones where Yoshitaka Amano designed the characters). Some of them are just random.

Warrior Names:

Giott (the dwarven king from FF4)
Sasuun (??? Wasn’t this a random monster name in FFT?)
Doma (Doma was a kingdom of “samurai” warriors from FF6, and the king’s name was most likely King Doma)
Argus (Possibly a mistranslation of “Algus” from FFT?)
Desh (one of the 5 “support” team members from FF3j, he was the son of Owen)
Zeza (King of Surgate Castle from FF5, and one of the Warriors of Dawn. He’s the one with Krusty hair)
Banon (leader of the Returners from FF6)
Arus (??? Possibly a mistranslation of Prince Allus from FF3j?)
Leo (a General for the Empire in FF6)
Baron (there was a kingdom in FF4 called “Baron”, and they trained Dark Knights. The king’s name was most likely “Baron”.

Thief Names

Baku (leader of the thief group Tantalus from FF9)
Biggs (recurring character from FF6, 7, 8, 10, X-2 and Chrono Trigger.)
Tuss (??? Maybe a random monster name again?)
Sarisa (the correct translation of “Salsa”, Faris’ true name from FF5)
Wedge (recurring character from FF6, 7, 8, 10, X-2 and Chrono Trigger.)
Gerad (Edgar’s “fake” name in FF6, used when he was disguised as a thief)
Puck (the little rat boy from FF9, who snuck into the play without a ticket)
Kelga (another one of the Warriors of Dawn from FF5. He was the wolf one)
Blank (one of the members of Tantalus from FF9)
Daryl (Setzer’s sweetie from FF6)

Monk Names

Maduin (one of the Espers from FF6, as well as Terra’s father)
Duncan (master Monk from FF6 who taught Sabin and Vargas)
Walz (there was a kingdom in FF5 named “Walz” or “Waltz”)
Arvis (the old guy from FF6 who brought Terra in. That flimsy old trilobite was a MONK?)
Drogan (another Warrior of Dawn from FF5. He was Bartz’s father.)
Marcus (a member of Tantalus from FF9)
Gorn (named after King Gorn of Salonia in FF3j. Or perhaps Gorn from FF5, which was a town with the airship base underneath it)
Owzer (the art collector from FF6)
Owain (Cyan’s son from FF6, murdered during the Doma attack)
Cinna (another member of Tantalus from FF9)

Red Mage Names

Gill (the wise turtle-sage from FF5)
Kory (???)
Lola (a woman from Maranda in FF6 who wrote love letters to an Imperial soldier)
Tot (the wise owl-faced scholar from FF9.)
Mid (Cid’s grandson from FF5)
KluYa (FuSoYa’s brother from FF4, also known as Cecil’s father)
Lalibo (the dwarf from FF5 who was digging an underground tunnel, then hit Mirage Town)
Elayne (Cyan’s wife from FF6, also died during the attack on Doma)
Duane (the boyfriend of Katarin in FF6. He watched over the Mobliz orphans)
Yura (an Esper from FF6 who you met at Mt. Crescent)

White Mage Names

Kuku (a Moogle from FF6)
Mikoto (the Genome girl from FF9 who was given a soul by Garland)
Ruby (the actress girl from FF9 with the southern accent)
Elia (the water maiden from FF3j)
Luca (the little dwarven girl from FF4 who loves dolls)
Sara (the recurring princess character from FF1, 3 and 9)
Noah (name of the Archmage who “created” magic in FF3j)
Jenica (name of the matron who cared for Reina and Faris in FF5)
Sarina (the “flying moogle” from FF9)
Sherko (???)

Black Mage Names

Nina (the adoptive mother of the four heroes from FF3j)
Kokkol (the master dwarven blacksmith from FF4)
Koko (a female chocobo from FF5. Boko’s girlfriend)
Topapa (the adoptive father of the four heroes from FF3j, as well as the head elder of Ur.)
Homac (one of the elders of Ur)
Zok (the old man from FF5 assigned to guard the Torna Canal)
Gilles (???)
Gungho (Strago’s old friend from FF6)
Delila (crazy old lady in FF3j who lived in a sewer)
Stella (Bartz’s mother from FF5)

Neat find. Considering Square’s habit reusing old names and characters, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were using this list while making the games.

I notice how a few of them have both male and female names…does this mean you can select the character’s gender?
(I’d probobly get this game if I didn’t have FFO, if only for the portability. Hell, maybe I’ll trade in FFO and get this. shrug)

Nope, you can’t. But since the several Sprite are abiguity it make no differnce. (Correct me please).

Argus: Yep, from Algus.
Arus: Yep, probably Allus.
I don’t know about Tuss, Kory, or Sherko. Gilles might be Gil from FF5.

I thought it was Argos. Not Unless you mean the Rockstar Ads about Argus/Argos.

I’m almost certain I saw a Chocobo or a Goblin or something named “Tuss” in FFT. Kory and Sherko though, I have no idea. And there’s already a Red Mage named Gill, so Gilles might be something else (again, I think I saw him as a random monster in FFT).

Argus - Algus. That must be it. I searched the entire Characters section of the FFC, and nothing named “Argus” came up. You know how l’s and r’s get mixed up.
