At the Shibuya Tsutaya Final Fantasy XII launch event, when Square Enix president Yoichi Wada was asked about the existence of a Final Fantasy VII remake on PS3, he smiled and mentioned that such remake is likely to happen with a large demand, but it is very difficult, the company is currently examining the possibilities.
It sounds like a good idea to me, but it has to be more than just a remake. They need to make it more challenging and add new features for it to work out.
More or less my thoughts. Although I’m with TD is that RPGs can’t be made truly challenging because of their stat-based nature, barring level crunchers. I just think that the game would improve with non-horrible character sprites and a bit of a slower pace in the story.
That said, I don’t like FF7 and don’t think that a new version would be too different, so it wouldn’t be a reason to buy the system. There are other FFs that could make a much greater use of a remake, like re-launching FFVI with FFX quality, or adding all the stuff that they could have done in FFT.
…I really didn’t see FFVI as standing up to FF7 in terms of quality, I really didn’t. I’m talking about graphics here, because I’ve played SNES games I DO think are better…but this isn’t one of them.
It’s good, but it’s not great. And I would like to see this, becuase I DID like it, and I might actually BUY the damn system then. >> And god, don’t slow the story down, enough people (not me, I like it <<) complain about the Midgar part as it is.
Cavelcade, I’m having a bit of trouble understanding you. Are you saying VI was better, or VII was?
I look at graphics not quite by what they are, but how good they are when considering the console’s capabilities. I think FFVI did an excellent job on it, and did things with Sprites and pixels that stood the test of time. FFVII, however… Well, I guess I can make concessions on that, since it was one of the first Playstation games, but looking back on the graphics make me cringe and think about how far later playstation games were able to progress from it.
Agreed, graphics were awful. I’m one of those who actually liked the Midgar part of the game more than the rest of it. If I had a PS3 I’d spluge for an FF7 remake.
I agree, but it almost made it worse. The contrast between the backgrounds and the squared sprites was horrible. They don’t blend together, and only accentuate how crappy the sprites are in comparison. When I play other games with similar sprites (Brave Fencer Musashi comes to mind) I don’t mind the square people as much because the entire setting is like that and my eyes get used to it. Get what I’m saying?
As for the plot, I’m with Cid here. Midgar may be a pain in the ass if you want to replay, but the Sephiroth chase takes too much time. Making that segment fast paced wasn’t a bad idea as it makes perfect sense, the mistake was spanning that segment over such a big part of the game. Exploring new towns and seeing each area’s characteristics are a big deal for me, and it doesn’t work as well when my character is only interested in moving ahead as soon as possible.
Well, huzzah for a remake of any ff with updated graphics (barring ffx and more recent, or ffmq, of course, or ffta or ffcc) even if a remake of six only included an upgrade of sprites, and a revamp of the graphics with very little change or advancement of gameplay, I had the same feeling when I found out about the remake of Chrono Trigger that was in the making (till it got cancelled obviously), because if the gameplay changed none what so ever, it would still be an instant hit, as it already is, but such a thing will never happen, as novelty is that which makes sales, or so it is believed.
That being said, right-the-hell-on for a remake of ff7, if it happens and the main plot/characters don’t change, I will be made happy if not by force alone.
I think much differently. While the game was okay (I had fun playing it, I guess), I really think the plot and characters were one of the worst parts of the game. CLoud’s a psycho who should be shot in his sleep for his own good, Tifa’s a manipulative Bitch, Aeris is a rather flat character I think… Eh, I could go on, but I won’t. Point is, FF7’s story/cast could have been done a lot better.
they arent going to make a fucking remake of ff7 bc they said that they wont so dont even try to say that they are bc they wont or if they do it will be to much money or something like that but if they do it will rock vincent owns all
By the way, there’s something regarding Cavelcade’s post that I didn’t clarify: I’m not saying that FFVI is a better game that FFVII. I DO think that, but that’s not what I meant before, I’m saying that FFVI would make better use of a remake than FFVII.
My overall point was not that ff7 was that cool to begin with, but that the resurfacing any ff game that is not some huge format bending/online only/enix tainted/over-celebration of graphics would be a step in a good direction. To put a new shiny face on any previous ff games, (short of ffmq, ffta, and anything more recent than ffx) would be good exposure, and hopefully give a boost to sales of such games, which, obviously, would mean the further production of such games.
I think Umaro probably has better grammar than fallen, not that everyone, or anyone else is perfect, but I guess esker put it best:
Man, if someone tried to remake FFMQ, I’d hunt the person down and have like a million of his/her babies. I liked that game enough, but remaking it and trying to do a better version? I’d give my left arm for that, and I’m left-handed! =D
regarding FallenKnight7’s post: what’d i ever do to deserve havinbg to read that post? you shall be arrested fo mass-soulicide. ow.
and, putting that unpleasantness behind me, i must say that i liked the FFVII sprites. Sure, there was a contrast between the admittedly lame sprites and the generally neat backgrounds, but i liked that simplicity. Of course I’m all for an FFVII facelift, so long as the story remains the same, so I would totally go buy it (assuming i have the cash). But what about a PS3 version of FFI? I’d totally dig that. And i also enjoyed my stay in Midgar.
