Technically there wouldn’t have been a game, or at least not the same game, without her. She basically got Cloud mixed up in all this. So even if she was meant to be the villain. I really wouldn’t agree lol.
I think she could make a villain in Kingdom hearts.

I have no idea who Heather Lockheart is, so I googled it. I won’t post what I found here, because it’s highly inappropriate, but apparantly she’s an “escort” who works in Detroit and Chicago. Guess that’d make sense, since Tifa is busty and all. I guess she could get that kind of work.
I think he might have been referring to Heather Locklear.
In any case, as far as I know, the only official place where Tifa’s full name is spelled out in English is in the FF7 manual. Where else would it be to invite controversy over how it’s spelled?
If you look on the FF7:AC page on the compendium (not plugging, honest!) there’s a FAQ that gives a good description of the Lockheart/Lockhart debate. I’m citing this because I forget which one it is, and I’m too lazy to look at it.
Why the hell wouldn’t you be allowed to plug the FFC on the FFC boards?

“Lockhart” (without the “e”) is Tifa’s last name. Though it has been
published as “Lockheart” in official materials over the years, it was always
in the English versions of such materials that this misprint saw the light of
day. In Japanese materials, including the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega
Guide – which was compiled by Studio BentStuff and published by Square-Enix
themselves, the creators and owners of Final Fantasy VII – it is spelled as
“Lockhart,” indicating it to be the actual intended spelling. Just as with
Squall Leonhart of Final Fantasy VIII, there is no “e” in the “hart” part of
the name.
This sounds like Square-Enix didn’t write the English manuals - of course they did! O_o But no, let’s take the word of a Japan-only strategy guide over the manual that came with the game. The official English name of a character is the name that the company wants their English-speaking audience to use and hence is included in its manual. In any case, I’ve often seen misspellings in Japan-only official publications which are quite blatantly wrong, and were corrected in the English counterparts.
Heres some more proof about Tifa’s name…and I quote

There’s a lot of confusion about the spelling of Tifa’s surname, because it’s spelt two different ways on official sources: either Lockhart or Lockheart. It’s been said that both are correct and which you choose to use is a matter of preference, however that isn’t actually the case.Every instance where Tifa’s surname is written as ‘Lockheart’ is on merchandise created by third parties, the prime examples being BradyGames, who made the English strategy guide, and Bandai, who made the FF7 Extra Knights figures. I don’t have my FF7 manual any more - according to the FAQ quoted before the manual said “Lockheart”; according to this it says “Lockhart”. Whichever one it is, I’d take the manual to be canon and everything else to be a mistake.
Everything (in my opinion) points to Lockhart so thats the one I use and Aerith is the one I use for her name but its weird that FF7 has two real big mistranslations, and I’ve even heard Zack spelt Zacks but that may have been a typo
What are the two big mistranslations? Spelling and grammar of regular words isn’t the same as spelling of proper nouns.

So… did Eidos copy Sony to save money, or did Square write the manual and give it to both Sony and Eidos? Or (more likely…) did Square just randomly decide to “more accurately” retranslate the name later, much like they did for Aerith?
Most importantly… since it’s her last name, that’s not actually used in the game itself, do we really care how it’s SPELLED? I rarely hear people make such a big deal about Tina/Terra, Cayenne/Cyan, Lock/Locke, or Mash/Sabin… -_-
Let’s just call her Tifa Lockhaeiourt and annoy everyone.
Although now, the next time I play FF7, I’m tempted to call her “Heather.”
The FFAC insert isn’t necessarily canon, since it’s by a doll company, not Square itself. Not sure about Ehrgeiz, but I’d still put the two FF7 manuals over it. I’d leave it as Lockheart for now.
And yes, this is a silly conversation, but I do run a sort of pseudo-FF-encyclopedia site and we do want to be as accurate as possible. 8p
