A moral dilemma

For the last 6-7 weeks a racoon has been coming in to the house through the dog door and has been eating the cat food. This has been a general annoyance because of our dogs age, she is 16 and can not hold it all night, so we can’t just close the dog door. Anyway the human society refuses to send us a cage to relocate the bitch because we may traumatize it, even after a lot of yelling and threats to get the least humane traps we can. Tonight I had my chance to kill it by feeding it poison or running it through with a knife or swordbut couldn’t bring myself to sentence it to death for trying to survive I’ll most likely have a chance tomorrow, and was wondering what you think I should do.

you should feed it stuff

i think you should feed it too

Yes, put food out someplace where the raccoon can reach it, so that it stays out.

When we leave food out for it it eats it and still goes for more, when we don’t leave food out it tears the pantry apart.

Well, I’d shoot the thing and send it to the Humane Society with a note pinned to it: “Now I bet you wish it was just traumatized, you tree-hugging fuckballs.”

But that’s jsut me(an). I don’t see why they wouldn’t help… But to me, there really isn’t much of a dilemma. If a strange animal is being a serious pest and wrecking the house, or could be a danger (and it might be), just put a hole in it’s head.

Well when you think about it you get rid of mice without putting much thought into it. BUt a raccoon is a bigger animal so killing it might cause so moral issues there. If you want you can just try to think of it as a bigger mouse.

We have raccoons at our house, but none of them come in or are that destructive. Not to mention that they run like hell whenever they see us.

Hey have you tried leaving out food you know it won’t like, then just blocking off access to the rest of the food. That way if you do that enough it should get the message and leave.

Take things into your own hands buddy…If you can avoid killing the bugger, do it…See if you can catch it, and release it near the “Tree Hugging fuckballs” as SS puts it :stuck_out_tongue:

Leave food out, stake yourself out near it, wait for the raccoon to appear then grab it, put it in a sack, get in your car, and drive a heeluva long time, then just throw the little bugger out.

Why? It’ll be alright.

<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/tenchimaru/td.gif”> Because I doubt people on the highway would appreciate a sack of squirrel flying into their windshield.

Umm… it’s actually a raccoon, TD  but I, for one, second Val’s plan- why should you and your dog be made to suffer just because it’s a greedy bastard? Show it who’s boss. :o

kill it. Poison sounds good. careful where you put your pets that night.

I say you do what Val says, and if it comes back (whiich it probably will) kill it.

Wow, I was drunk when I posted that, I had no clue it would actually be seen as a good idea :stuck_out_tongue:

the annoyance isn’t really worth killing it. Why don’t you just board up the hole for a few days, or not leave cat food out at night.

Judging from the raccoon’s behavior, he may or may not be rabid, in which case grabbing him would be a BAD thing to do. And even if he is not rabid, it would certainly attack him… IF he could grab it. This is the least practical solution of all of them.

Just DON’T HURT THE CREATURE!!! Lure it into the wilderness with food, and your problem will be solved without bloodshed!
