Yikes, I hope this one gets to major news sources, quick!

Whoa, I don’t know if anyone heard about this…I saw this at another MB I go to. The original title is, “This Might Kill George Bush’s Chances of Getting Re-Elected.” Well, I hope…jeezus god. Here’s the original post, since you have to sign up for the forums to read the posts, appearantly…

WHOA. That’s just fucked up. O_o They can’t possibly explain away this one.

They claim they are being funded by the GOP, but aren’t authorized by any candidate. Further, you see they are based in Springfield Missouri.

I’ll tack that on to my list of “Why I want to Move Away From Here” -_-;

Yeah, here are the different angles of this story:

  1. A few days ago, six Republican party staff in South Dakota resigned over a mounting voter fraud scandal, including the head of the Republican voter mobilization operation in the state.

  2. At about the same time, employees of a Republican-funded voter registration operation in Nevada witnessed other company employees deliberately shredding Democratic registrations.

  3. This same organization, whose leader used to be the executive director of the Arizona state Republican Party, is also being accused of doing the same thing in Oregon. It is also operating in West Virginia, where similar allegations are beginning to come up.

  4. In addition to this, recently filed court documents indicate that the current chairman of the Bush campaign in New England was a key figure in a 2002 election fraud case in New Hampshire, in which an Idaho company was hired to deliberately jam the phone lines of Democratic organizations seeking to mobilize voters. (UPDATE: The chairman in question just resigned today.)

the voting system here in america needs a serious overhaul

Sounds like something out of the Baltics. It’s sad. I was hoping that the observers from OSSE wouldn’t need the experience they have accumilated throug monitoring the elections we’ve had throughout post-Jugoslavia.

How do you know Bush has something to do with this, and that it’s not just a few idiots that happen to be republicans? By the way, I have no idea what a GOP is, explain?

GOP (Grand Old Party) is the offical name of the Republican Party. Also, the article says that the people doing it have close ties witht eh GOP, which means that the GOP knows about it. Since Bush is President, he is head of the GOP. He may or may nto know about what is happening, afterall, he does have a lot of stuff going on right now.

If you’re the head of a group you’re still responsible for what the group does. Like if your privates fuck up, if you’re their head officer, you bear some responsibility.

Yeah it’s already in major news sources SG, my paper did an article about it yesterday. I don’t see what’s so shocking about this though, I thought it was common knowledge that you don’t register to vote with any group that is not your party; since they will “forget” to send in your app.

Not the best example of using the military, just because of how things work (there are many elvels of responsibility and it all dpends on the level and situation of the fuck up, but it would most likely go on a NCO [Non Commisioned Officer - Corporal or above] who would feel it since he is in charge of the Private, PFC, etc.). I agree that there is some burden of responsibility, however, it could have been cordinated by the state party or something (since the state and national party don’t always agree or do the same thing. Beisdes, I’m not sayign the Bush has no knowledge or shouldn’t take a small part of the blame, I’m just saying that he may not know.

EDIT: It is jsut that the Republican party is a huge organization and there are many levels. Back to the military example, the reason it is bad is that Bush is even above officers in the military, like the CO that you talked about. It would be like a low level enlisted making a mistake and Bush getting in trouble for it since he is also the Commander-in-Chief in addition to being the head of his party AND America. Also, the CO would most likely be doing the ass-chewing, not receiving. It would have to be a huge mess-up for the CO to take a hti for a low rnaking person to get him in trouble.

Info has a point there in that first paragraph. Take Karl Rove for example and all the stuff he’s done in the elections he’s taken part in.

Bush himself probably doesn’t have much to do with it, but his campaign strategists (namely Karl Rove) are much more likely culprits. The incidents have occurred in multiple states and are connected to high-ranking figures in state parties, so it’s unlikely that all of them are the work of a few generic idiots.

Saying Bush is responsible doesn’t mean anything, other than, “Vote for Kerry!” It vaguely tries to express a moral obligation for Bush to control thousands of people, which, beyond inventing this moral obligation, is an absurd expectation. I don’t sympathize with Bush; but neither with the substanceless responsibility arguments characteristically employed by both parties.

Ok that was so politically confusing I don’t even know what to say. Good thing the military has a “somewhat” separation from political matters…at least the enlisted men do.

Not surprising

Unfortunately, I’m stuck here for a while… oh well, at least campus is nice.

He’s just explaining how responsability winds up to the top of the command chain sometimes. Of course it doesn’t mean anything, and especially not “Vote Kerry!”.
