…And I dont just mean rule-wise and power, I mean RP wise, usual personality, personal thoughts… Discuss.
Sorcerers tends to be arogants, saying they have Dragon blood in their veins…(And they often do!) .
Magic comes naturally to them, and they consider it an art.
Wizards are the book guys. They have to learn magic by studying. Most Wizards turns out to be very sage.
The dragon blood thing just an theory, though.
Well, sorcerer characters tend to be young, naive. They just discover that they can shoot fire from their arms one fateful day- “Wow! I could take over the world, baby!”, and that usually leads to trouble… unless the sorcerer found himself scared of these powers, making him more of a wanderer who tries to avoid using these powers…
One could say it’s an X-men-type of mutant life, especially in low-magic campaigns…
While wizards (tutored ones, at the very least) have more control, so to speak- (hey, it really requires some degree of control to pick something other than magic missile for a low-level wiz…) They’ve been taught to be careful and such, since hey, magic is bad stuff if uncontroller…
Of course, all of my magic-users who have been in my games have just killed stuff with meatshieds in front… no need for book-keeping… no sirree
Being a man of chaos, I always prefer the freedom of a sorc…They can hve basically any personality or background you want…be you a random prodigy, or be it magic in the blood…I enjoy em more
as a rule of thumb every time the books state a “theory” (especially monster manual stuff) it is just giving the DMs space to build their worlds the way they want to
