It’s clear that Zelda herself is no longer the focus. I mean, the first game had some bit character named Link saving the Princess Zelda who had all sorts of backstory around her and stuff, and now you barely see her at all anymore. It’s all about Link. Why not call it “The Chronicles of Link?”
The same reason Square hasn’t switched to Another Fantasy: Name recognition and loyalty. People complained enough about “Celda.” Imagine if Nintendo tried changing the name of the series.
There are lots of cases like this, Megaman Zero is still called Megaman even though X’s screen time is about 2 minutes when you sum up all the games.
Is there a Metal Gear in every Metel Gear game?
Yes. Techinically there wasn’t one in MGS3, but the Shagohod was basically a Metal Gear.
As for the topic, I’d say that Zelda is still an important part of each story. The only ones she hasn’t been was Link’s Awakening (which didn’t even take place in Hyrule) and the Oracle games. However, those were both made by Capcom. Well, Majora’s Mask too and I can’t say much about that one. Still, Zelda has been significant in most of them. In a way the stories are all about Link and here relationship.
Yes, unless there’s not one in Snake Eater. We don’t actually see it in the original, if I recall correctly, but they mention it often enough.
My two cents: the same reason the Lufia series is called Lufia in America even though Lufia herself is in the first game only: Because that’s the name of the series.
Just a sidenote: I believe the first game in the series “Lufia: The Fortress of Doom” is actually the second game in the Lufia story line. “Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals” actaully occurred before LFD.
Unless I’m missing some sort of sarcastic undertone, that’s no secret. LFD goes out of it’s way to make sure you can’t possibly miss this fact, just play the introduction.
In Europe, StarFox (SNES) and StarFox 64 are Called STARWING (SNES) and LYLAT WARS (N64), since Nintendo had some legal Trouble and renamed the games for Europian releases. Yet, most people I know call the games StarFox and StarFox 64 or know what I mean by it.
A few years ago some companys changed the name of their UK brand name to match their international name, Most people I know Still Call Cif, it UK name Jif.
So Fans may not Noitce or Just “add” missing parts of title such as, for example, “Legend of Zelda : Link’s Quest” when it really called “Link’s Quest”. But since Nintendo makes Money of having the Name… why change it?
I meant no offense. I haven’t played either of the games in a while, but I still remembered that. I was just being a little too critical in Yar’s called LFD the “first game”.
Yeah there is. The Shagohod is the Metal Gear in that one, even though they dont actually call it “Metal Gear Shagohod” It was apparently the prototype for the other ones.
It’s was the first game they made. So STFU.
In the UK we call MXC, Takeshi’s MXC since the footage is from Takeshi’s Castle (風雲!たけし城 Fūun! Takeshi Jō) and the UK has a slightly edited (from the orignal Jap) version, which is best program on that Channel. It was: UK 4 hours to the 1 hour of USA’s MXC, today.
BN
No, it was the first game they released. D-Boy (who says he’s a pretty big fan of the original Lufia, though he apparently hates the rest of the games) says there was originally supposed to be a Famicom (NES) game in the series, called Esteel. Most likely it was cancelled in favor of the SFC/SNES game.
And Lufia 2 gives a snippet of Lufia 1’s post-intro opening if you wait long enough at The End. Also, Lufia technically is in Lufia 2’s plot (remember who she really is?)
Dragons Revenge: The Shagohod wasn’t the Metal Gear prototype - in fact, the scientist you fail to save after dressing up as Raidenovich is the one with the Metal Gear plans; Shagohod is what the general went with after ignoring the scientist, which is why he was drinking himself to death. Obviously the plans get out there anyway, though. Sorry about the lack of names, it’s been a while and I don’t remember them. ^^; So Metal Gear is definitely mentioned in MGS3, but doesn’t have a starring role.
This makes me think of Street Fighter. Last time I counted, there were 11 versions of SF2 (Super SF2, SF2 Turbo, SF2 X, SF2 Special Edition etc.), even though it’s about a martial arts contest with a set of well defined, rigid rules instead of real street fighting.
Meh, whatever.
And don’t forget how we just recently got up to “3.”
Sorry, but you’re wrong. im a MGS3 fanboy, so prepare for a bit of a rant here:
Sokolov, or the scientist you fail to save when dressing as Ivan Raidenovich Raikov created the shagohod, a tank with the capabilities of launching nuclear missiles in a more stealth way than they are usually launched, by not using silos and only requiring itself, nuclear missiles, and a runway. This is NOT a metal gear prototype, although the treads can move in a similar way to legs. So, Skolov does not have the metal gear plans. in the storyline, the grandfather of Hal Emmeric (or, as more people know him, Otacon) has the plans. This is because Granin, the scientist drinking himself to death in the basement of Graniny Gorki, designed the plans. however, Volgin, or the colonel you fight at the end of the game, didnt like them as much as the shagohod that sokolov developed. Because of this, Granin sent them to Hal Emmerich’s grandfather.
So, not that it matters, but you were wrong, and neither Granin or Sokolov has the plans. Oh, and metal gear REX is in that game-- its an action figure on Granin’s desk in Graniny Gorki.
