There are two Ion Storms, they have the same name, but they’re different development houses. The Ion Storm headed by Romero produced Diakatana and Anachronox (which was actually a pretty good game). This is the Ion Storm everyone hates.
The Ion Storm headed by Carmack Ion Storn produced Deus Ex. A lot of people like this Ion Storm. To differentiate between the two, one is named “Ion Storm Dallas,” but I always forget which is which. Shrugs
I missed that part the first time. My mistake. I know that there are two branches of Ion Storm, but most consumers don’t. They see the icon, and either don’t recognize it, think “Deus Ex,” or think “Daikatana.” That’s not the best track record. Fortunately, 85% of the market never even notices who publishes a game, much less develops it.
