What on earth is wrong with the human reproductive system?
Nothing, it’s just considered inappropriate in our culture to learn until a certain age. What if a little kid learned about sex and the like at the age of 5. Would it take him so long to work up the nerve to have intercourse? He might be one of those kids losing his virginity at age 11 or 12.
Even if that’s a little farfetched, other parents would not like their kids knowning about sex until a certain age, and if your kid goes around blabbing about it all the time–well, I can say quite a few would be upset, just as the aunt was.
Obviously you are not well-informed about what a vagina is. Urine does not come from the vagina.
Also, the word vagina is the proper term; nothing is wrong with it. Penis is the proper term; nothing is wrong with it. You might as well get offended if it said “leg” or “ear.”
I will say that I don’t like the Vagina Monologues (especially the “good” rape part).
What is wrong with understanding how the human body works when you are a child? Your example might not happen if you inform your child about sex and complications that come with it (love, relationships, pregnancies, STDs). Five probably is a little too young to tell a kid about sex, but I think if the child asks you what a vagina is or why you have a penis, then you should tell the child the truth in an educational and formal manner, not some stupid bull shit about “oh its a wee wee”.
Heh, I guess so. I’d still be vague, though.
How awful. If you actually explain physiology to a young child, you’ll be killing their chances to giggle awkwardly during those years of adolescence whenever someone says “penis” or “vagina.”
