When threads go off topic

Well, sounds like we should make a holiday after TD’s great deed of slaying RPGDragon then, if he was that bad :mwahaha:

Yeah … He kinda annoyed me a little bit, until I made him the Op in my comic’s chatroom …

Most of the time when threads go off topic and rack up lots of posts really fast it’s because it’s a conversation between two or more newbies that nobody else cares about. If you don’t like current event threads, stay out of them. People aren’t going to regulate their behavior because of a post like this.

Also, it might be just me, but there should be more threads about video games. and alot less threads about current events, they are too boring.

I was posting lots of Video Game stuff, but SOMEPEOPLE coughZombieOricoughNightbladecough got annoyed with it so I stopped.

I’ll post more Video Game info if you want.

I think the real problem isn’t going off topic, but more the people that just type in “free post” when it does go off topic. Seriously that shit is annoying.

True, some threads really grow because of their conversational aspects. I like the balance that we typically have - some gaming stuff, some newsy stuff, and some hippo-eating stuff (but not too much of that).

On a different note, TD is so much better than RPGDragon. That was cool.

People who yell Free post earn themselves a free dose of unhinged absolute wrath.

What sort of wrath?
Is it a cocktail mix, or is it a few certain things? ^^

Sometimes, "free post"ing is a way to say that the off-topicness of a discussion is getting ridiculous.

Oh, and I agree that Ori doesn’t always act in a way that is conducive to on-topic discussion.

Or you could simply ignore the thread and not post free post and look like a retard. We typically don’t give a shit about whether or not a thread’s really off topic, however when a thread does go off topic, its only a matter of time before it goes down the toilet and when it does, we close.

And another reason: as an excuse to use the :yipee: smilie.

I’m pretty sure that most people here are smart enough to come up with other forms of entertainment besides random incoherent babble. Most.

It wasn’t incoherent babble damnit! It is the truth! I SHALL CHANGE THE WORLD ONE FROG AT A TIME!

And you have all earned the frog’s wrath, yes… yes… they shall come after you someday… hehehe…hahaha…BWAHAHAHA!

EDIT: Oh- I hate free posts. They take absolutely no imagination, and generally piss everyone off. Do us a favor and the next time you want to type those dreaded words, cut yourself with a rusty razor, instead.

Just curious, before this discussion continues, who is/are the guilty party/ies that we are talking about when it comes to "free post"ing?

Anyone who’s ever responded to a topic with those two words.

Ok. Since Sinistral was talking about looking retarded, I was wondering if he had someone in particular in mind.

All informal real life discussions end up going off topic. And usually from something compleatly unrelated, to sex.

I think I’m going to call that the 69th rule of Nulani.

I generally think the mods have a good sense of when to lock a thread. THere’s only a couple (by which I mean 2 to 5) times where I’ve noticed a thread being locked and thought “you know, I think that was a quick trigger finger there.”

Silliness is a big part of RPGC, and as long as its a Creative Silliness being displayed (and it isn’t maliciously directed at someone) I think it’s fine and should be let go. And I think generally it is let go. When the silliness gets lazy and unimaginative, it should be locked down and generally is.

(Then, I haven’t read every locked thread there ever was, and my opinion differs from yours blah blah blah blah blah blah, your mileage may very.)

Points to Ivan’s first reply And he gets away with that shit? 100 POSTS! OMG! :hyperven: ::dekar!:: :hyperven:

besides, the thread this is in reference to (Charlemagne’s 3 pager) meandered along for 3 pages before being closed. It’s not as if it was clamped after the first off-topic remark.

And people who just quote somebody without adding anything. If you can’t be bothered to type out something different, don’t even post.
