Well? I personally love 9 the most. It had the best story, gameplay, character development, and sidequests. It was also lighthearted which was something I was looking for after the totally morbid 8.
I’d stack 'em up like this, from best to worst:
9, 3, 5, 8, 7, 1, 10, and 4. I have not played 2, X-2, or 11.

I always was fond of FF 3/6 But Ive been playing FF 5 recently and I am starting to like that one better.
^I enjoyed FFV…the job system was really cool, even though the story was seriously lacking. Maybe that is why Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite FF game. But from the original series my favorite would probably have to be FFIX. I haven’t played that many.
8 was morbid?
My favorites would have to be, FFX, FFX-2, and Kingdom Hearts(It’s a FF/Disney mix!!!).
8 was my fav.
FF 3(6). Call me old fashioned but it had a deep storyline great summoning system, lots of chacaters, and much more. It will probably always be my favorite. I hope they remake it either on the GBA or the PSP handheld. Though they will probably have to put it on the handheld, I’m not sure if the GBA could hold it.
IX is the way to go.

Not exactly morbid, but I would say it’s more grown up. I hate having a main character who is always, “Don’t talk to me, I’m on my period.” Asshole. Anywho, I thought 9 was a nice break from that.
