Why do people like hard strategy games?
Because of the challege, duh. Challenge level is one of the most important aspects of a strategy game.
Vanguard Bandits, too.
Yep, pigs. Always with the pigs. And I must have rented Ogre Battle at least 20 times as well. It was such a gamble, I never knew if I was gonna get the same cart each time or if my saves would still be there.
I like some hard strategy games
I hate fire emblem
It’s a good thing my brother didn’t read that, he loves Fire Emblem.
Dude…Motoi Sakuraba. That’s all I’ll say.
What’s the matter? Story too complicated for you :P?
Man, I’m surprised no one here has played Beyond the Beyond. See, as much as you guys hate 7th Saga, I actually was able to grind my way to the end. BtB , I gave up after 12 hours of torture and a friend of mine, who’s worse than Saturn’s mother, gave up after 24.
I wouldn’t say “better” but chatarcters look a whole lot better.
Vandal Hearts is more of FFT for people who don’t want to think as much.
I had to restart Chapter 27 ten times in Fire Emblem
Yes FFT is far too complicated… Collect stones by mass-abusing the charm skill and the monk job.
You’ve just made my day. 8) 8)
The fact that you suck at it does not make it the game’s fault.
DUDE! I totally forgot about BtB! I piled 20ish hours before giving up that piece of crap.
Fire emblem isn’t bad, it’s just frustrating
Uhh, In Vandal Hearts you just send a guy out to loure people in, and cast phase shift/salamander untill they all die.
Both games are fun, but you can abuse the system just as much in either game. I like Vandal Hearts better, but I’ll even admit that there is a whole lot more to Tactics.
I like Fire Emblem a lot since there is more chalange, as we all find out that we can’t revive our doodz in that game.
Holy crap. I’ve left that game because of that freakin’ battle. I’m trying to go through the game without losing anyone, and then, just when I get all the items and everything’s going honky-dory some Valkyrie chick comes up:
“Are you afraid to die?” One lightning attack later, Rath/Sain/Kent=dead.
Darnit.
Wait, wait, wait… you mean that it’s feasible to play that game without exploiting Phase Shift/Salamander? Wow… maybe I should try that some day… nah.
NOt revive your guys means you hit the reset button when they die. That’s annoying
I haven’t played VH, but FFT was absolutely terrible as a tactics rpg.
There were no tactics involved. Premeditation was impossible because the turn order was randomly modified such that it was completely useless and unpredictable.
Forecasted damage and hit rates were almost ALWAYS inaccurate.
Leveling up meant absolutely nothing. It was something that could have and probably should have been left out of the game, to simplify things.
Orlandu > game, with brute force. It’s a tactics rpg.
Magic was useless. It took five or six turns to cast, and did little to no damage compared with weapons.
Character-specific magic was utterly BROKEN. Agrias, Orlandu, and Gafgarion are close to invincible. This doesn’t help you when your goal is to save a 10hp girl surrounded by level 99 Ultima Beasts at the start of battle, or something to that effect. Luckily, only THREE QUARTERS of the story battles were like this.
Every potentially tactical skill had a 0% hit rate by default.
If you like being tactical, stick with games that do it right, like Starcraft.
It was the first strategy game I ever played, and probably many other people. You have to realize that it therefore holds a bit more of a place in their mind then it probably deserves.
FF7 was the first RPG I ever played. I thought it was the highest caliber of gaming ever. Years later, I played it and realized that while it is good, it’s not the flawless game I had made it out to be. Same way with FFT, although, I’ll give it credit for it’s storyline. Now, all they needed was a godd translation. It’s either a good translation or a good story, I’ll be darned if you ever get both.
