Taking aside the obvious morbidity, why on earth are there people willing to pay huge sums just to see a fricking rock in the middle of a desert? I just simply don’t get it.

Why would they climb mount Everest? They’ll likely end up dead or frostbitten. Why would they kill a lot of other people for religion? Why would they introduce rabbits to an environment where they could easily become a plaque? Because they’re idiots, alright. That’s why anyone does anything

Tourism was once a major industry for Afghanistan. In the 1960s and 1970s the country was a key stopping point on the Hippy Trail from Europe to India - famed for its spectacular scenery, ancient ruins and local intoxicants.

Afghanistan was once an important part of the silk road. It was also relatively developed untill the Taliban took over. So yeah, it must have been very big into tourism once.

Nah, not so much. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: It had been seiged for a decade by the soviets, and in civil war since the 70s.
