I was always scared of the eel too
Yes, definately. I remember playing that game and always wondering when that bastard would show up next.
I didn’t find Super Metroid scary at all. Maybe that’s because I never played it in the dark, but I still didn’t find any of it scary, not as much as I found it mysterious.
Hello Kitty Roller Rescue… nuff said.
…You’re not allowed to post anymore.
It’s the last game I played, so it’s fresher than anything else: In Soul Reaver 2, right after Mobius tricks you and sends you into the future. You have to go trough the derelict building with the rain, the thunder and nearly no light when those freaky monsters just suddenly appear with an explosion. And you can’t even escape into the phantom realm.
No kidding. It got even worse in Bottom of the Well when I had to kill the Mummies (Upgraded Redeads) as a child… I slammed the B Button like a retard watching terrified as it slowly turned around O.O
The worse I found in that game was Phantom Ganon (Forest Temple). I just twirled around in a panicked frenzy trying to guess what painting it would spring out of next.
Hey, I remember that. It was horrible to watch that thing calmly swimming one moment and then suddenly dashing at you at super speed.
Doom 3 is more FPS than survival horror, right? If so, then Doom 3.
If not, then I guess… I really can’t think of anything else. SilkRoad has some pretty scary scenes in it when it’s dark and shit, but nothing incredibly scary.
Metroid Prime, because FPS perspective always creeps me out.
OoT and Metroid: Fusion also scare me for the exact reasons stated above. The whole Shadow part and the Mummies/Redeads are just too much for me!
Nothing really scares me unless I actually play the genre in a game. I could laugh at Resident Evil the movie and then crap my pants in the actual game. But overall, I have to stick with Setz on this one, so I’ll nominate DOOM 3. I love anything horror so I might check up on Silkroad or F.E.A.R, which Ive heard great thing about.
SilkRoad is an RPG. It’s nothing survival horror to it; just some scenes look really ambient and frightening.
Shadow Temple wasn’t that scary, and Bongo Bongo just might be one of the coolest bosses ever. Now that fish level on the other hand…
And the Ice Queen of Dark Cloud. I almost crapped my pants the first time I saw the cutscene, then I almost crapped when I dead before I realized the fight started (damn Freeze condition, and Anti-Freeze Amulets didn’t seem to work in that fight)
Guys. System Shock 2. Its already an FPS and an RPG, so unless you want to call it a third genre as well, that should be the dominator of this thread. That has the ONLY instance outside of survival horror games wherein I was literally frozen in place because I heard an enemy in the next room over.
Maybe I’m just a pussy, cause I was basically frozen in place the entire way through the undead area in HL2

Super Metroid, hands down. That game is just creepy. You’re a single girl alone in a hostile planet with creepy background music. It’s just a really lonely game. Hell, the LACK of music in some areas is the creepiest part of the game.
Back when I was like 6, I was playing Treasure Mountain, and after you get to the third rank, the elves start casting these spells to steal your gold. I was so scared I cried.
More recently, Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Underground. In Medal of Honor, the mission in the woods kinda creeped me out a little, but in Underground, there was the mission with the dudes in armor. You heard them coming long before you saw them, and they took forever to kill. I remember one found me at the bottom of this long-ass set of steps. I backpeddled all the way up the stairs, which took like 10 seconds, unloading my machine gun into it nonstop before he died.
SS2 and F.E.A.R. are FPS/Survival Horror hybrids, SS2 has a slightly RPGish system, they’re invalid according to Zhare.
But I’ll admit SS2 was fucking creepy. PSYCHIC MONKEYS!
i didn’t really get scared by any of zelda or any of the metroid games…sure there’s tension, but nothing that ever made me feel really scared per se. until i played FEAR.
Ravenholm! Finally it’s mentioned. Once you meet Gregori, it kinda dimishes the fear, but the first segment is just creepy. Anyone who says I’m wrong can try playing through it at night, with the lights off, by him/herself.
Oh yeah, the Iron Knuckles in OoT scared me too, ha ha.
Mario 64 - I cannot believe I forgot about the eel. It’s been that long!
That last blurb from Sigma made me turn around in surprise when I first beat Megaman X
