I am an optimist, so I daydream about mostly happy things: success in a future academic career and a happy marriage to a beautiful woman, fine food and wine, living in a large old manor and other such things. Sometimes I dream about the natural world and how the damage that human beings have caused it might be repaired. I dream about what might lie beyond death, which is generally a happy afterlife of sorts.
Occasionally, I daydream about being someone else: a celebrity actor, rock star or fashion model, or a famous scholar or inventor. I wonder sometimes what life would be like today if history had unfolded differently.
