What are the specs/features of the PS3/MGS 4 Bundle

Besides the fact it’s 80 gig and includes the game and DS3 controller. Is it the same 80 gig that first came out? PS2 compatible? HDMI Cable included?

Any 80gb is BC with PS2. Should include everything you need.

THought about picking this up, think I’m just gonna get MGS4 and rent a PS3 though.

You sure about that? I thought the newer ones would not have that compatibility…

I second Zero’s skepticism.

Why don’t you just go to a website like GAMESTOP to look at what specs they have :P?

I was on there looking for the MGS4/PS3 bundle exclusively and came up empty. Again, I don’t know if this 80 gig one is the same as the old one, so I dont want to look that one up and find it isn’t the same one.

I don’t think the exact details of the bundle are known but I don’t think it is any different from the 80GB bundle already available. Which also confirms it WILL NOT be PS2 compatible.

It would probably be easier to just get the PS3 and the game separately.

80GB still plays PS2 games everyone. And sin, its only the 40GB that doesn’t support PS2 games. 60 and 80GB do.

Not only that, but if you click the above link, the PDF manual confirms the 80GB PS2 bc. Keep in mind that there are some bugs with some PS2 games on the 80GB. These usually tend to be fixed through firmware updates though.

This link will let you know what games are and aren’t buggy.

I was tempted to go ahead and get the bundle, but there just aren’t that many games out that I’d wanna play just yet that I can’t play on a 360. For now I’ll settle for MGS4 and renting a PS3 to play it on. If you’re still unsure of whether or not to buy one, I’d suggest you do the same

The way I see it, is there are enough PS3 games, aside from MGS4 that I’m interested in enough to buy the system, and by the time I’m done with those, more should be available.

Thanks for the info.

I thought they were getting rid of BC totally? What’s the point in making some BC and not others? This is retarded.

I think they might still be phasing out the 80 gig sku’s, and this could just be a way of speeding up that process?

But if they do that after having phased out the 60GB sku , they’re left with the 40, which is inferior to the Xbox 360 elite.

True…

shrug One SKU + Cheaper price + No further confusion = More Sales?
Doubtful.

It could just be to push more systems and jack up sales of the game. It’s hard to move millions of copies of one of the most anticipated games of the last few years when not even that many people have the console it’s for.

But Sony doesn’t think in those terms. If you remember, they advocated the higher price of the PS3 as a PLUS for months.

I concur. Rumors have speculated about a firmware update in the fall allowing the 40GB to play PS2 games, but I guess we’ll see later.

It’s even harder to push MGS4 onto people who are assuming that the big plot twist for the game is…

When Solid Snake defects to start his own military nation of superfreaks as Really Big Boss, and that a new Snake will be taking his place to relive the first game all over again.

That’s my theory at least. :stuck_out_tongue:

There are a few limited edition bundles that come with a gun-metal grey PS3, but aside from that it shouldn’t be different, and HDMI cables you have to buy seperately.

I dunno. I second the “buy the game, rent the system” idea. I’d give a foot to play this game and I think that might be how I’m gonna do it.

sigh And EU gets screwed once more. No PS2 compatibility in the 40GB SKU.

I was thinking about passing my PS2 to a relative or someone without a console since I happen to have a region 1-2 dvd player, but looks like I’ll have to keep the sucker to play Ps2 games.

Unless, of course, I began to hunt for a 60GB console? I wonder if you could find them for the same price as the 40GB one as they’re technically “out of sale”?

If not, you will probably find a few pre-owned ones
