Played for the first time today, going on campaign mode (the stage where you get to scare some necromancers away from a gold mine).

What’s with the soldier with a winged helmet? I’ve seen he has more HP than the regular ones, but he’s not a hero. Can I make that kind of soldier later on or is he a non-heroic unique of some sort?

Yup, he’s a campaign specific unique character, think of him as a hero in the Starcraft sense. And no you can never recruit more of him.

Yea, he’s a captain. It’d be cool if you could upgrade footmen to that level, but alas, no.
