I don’t really care about the article or the people and their futile struggle. I care about this little quote: "Last year it had sales of $256bn, accounting for 2% of US gross domestic product. If it were an independent nation, Wal-Mart would be the eighth biggest trading partner with China. "
Bah. I work for an extremely illegal oligopoly that will most likely crumble onto itself when an important resource is gone, or blown off the planet.
Still, I personally never shop at Wal-Mart, considering I tend to be a supporter of little industry (and they usually make me better prices than WM anyway).
Are you joking? I dont think its possible for them to stifle entreuprenurship and private buisness more than they already do. They also promote outsourcing, child labor, and sweatshops in 3rd world countries. I so totally hope that was sarcasm dude.
Besides, the kids may get shitty treatment, but frankly they’re better off with the jobs than without. Wal Mart helps families in third world countries. I’m right aren’t I? Am I not right? You know it.
Fuck private business, I bought a brand new pair of leather shoes there for 5 bucks last Saturday.
The only problem with Wal Mart is their video games. Their selection is always terrible, and they don’t lower their prices as often as Target (or most other stores).
Also, the thing about Wal Mart is that everybody bitches about how its evil, but these same people end up shopping there anyway. I remember one time my friend and I were there, since he had to buy something, and as we were leaving, he kept bitching about how evil Wal Mart was after buying a bunch of shit, completely forgetting the fact that he just bought a bunch there on his own free will. And his wife only doesn’t like Wal Mart because she thinks they put too much wax on their apples. o_O
And besides, Wal Mart is doing EXACTLY what each and every one of those smaller private businesses wants to be doing, so don’t play the sympathy card, folks.
