Last year, at this time, Ackbar and I entered into a spur of the moment challenge in which we would each choose two community members to fill out NCAA Division I basketball championship, also known as March Madness, brackets. The catch was we chose people who were completely ignorant of basketball and, when told the matchups they had to predict, were not informed of seeding, record, or overall quality of a team.
The four representatives filled out a prediction bracket based solely on guessing or other random factors like names they preferred. The results were horrid yet humorous. For instance, TD predicted the 16 seed to upset the 1 seed in three different games and had only one team left in the tournament after the Sweet 16.
Ackbar won after Washington was screwed over by the refs against UConn. However, I had the overall points leader in GSM.
This year, though, I am looking to expand on the challenge. SG has already agreed to be an opponent, and I am looking for a few more challengers. In addition, once the brackets have been released, there will be a need for two college basketball ignorant (and I mean TRULY ignorant) representatives per challenger. If you wish to be a challenger let me know. If you wish to be a representative and have no problem with your random yet bad choices be ridiculed, let me know. The tournament is almost upon us (I believe Thursday), and I have need to determine who can randomly guess the best bracket.
I would love to be one of the representatives. I know nothing of basketball rules/ethics/history or sports in general, which would make college basketball completely alien to me other than the fact that they’re playing a canadian sport.
I’m good. I know absolutely nothing about basketball besides for the fact that it involves bouncing a ball and putting it on a net and that the shoes tend to squeak on the floors. Sign me up.
I’m pretty sure I’m ignorant enough to be a rep if you still need one. I currently follow NO sports, and have never followed basketball, college or pro.
The 984 appreciates the enthusiasm to be mocked for outrageous, uneducated brackets. However, The 984 would like to see a few more challengers. That’s for those of you that wish to participate but have some knowledge of college basketball, even if it’s as little as a vague idea of who is good. So, Seifer, feel free to challenge.
Nah. No need for any more competitors now. SG, Kero, and Ackbar have all agreed to take those roles. They’ll be choosing their representatives soon, and all brackets will need to be in before the first game on Thursday. Representatives chosen will be contacted soon, either by me or the competitor choosing them.
It’s probably too late, but I’m completely ignorant of college basketball. I know the mechanics of the game (it’s not very hard to) but when it comes to the NCAA or the NBA or your mom I just don’t know.
(edit - but apparently not good enough for some people!)
