The Nintendo DS

‘zactly. The Nintendo DS sucks right now as a PDA, coz’ there aren’t any good PDA software for the DS. However, if I were to, say, team up with Nintendo and make an official Linux distro with it… Well, a PDA for, say, $150 or so? When a real PDA costs $400 or more? I doubt it’d be hard to find buyers.

The fact that this distro then would be development-friendly would mean that all of a sudden you get a homegrown market, as well. This is a new type of device, and I can see lots of useful stuff for it… Imagine a browser that has the browsing window in the top screen and the controls at the small touchpad, for example. It’s just a rock-solid piece of hardware, although I’ll wait 'til it comes down in price a bit before I get it.

So in closing, the Nintendo DS would be great as a PDA, and if Nintendo themselves refuse to develop such software, then someone else will. With or without the consent of Nintendo, although it’d be best if it was with.

And that is PRECISELY why we should encourage him. I mean christ, GM, you’ve been here long enough to know why Wertigon should never ever be given the oppurtunity to reproduce. What if there’s any genetic component responsible for him being this way?

What’s a PDA?

Personal Data Assistant. Organizer on crack.

Off the record, nintendo WILL be coming out with orginizer software, if only because <a href=“http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/01/18/sony_psp_update_confirmed/”>the</a> <a href=“http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-entertainment/psp/sony-psp-update-is-real-029942.php”>PSP</a> <a href=“http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-entertainment/psp/potential-sony-psp-upgrades-029765.php”>is</a> getting it. Sony is rumored to be sending it’s old CLIE dev team over to work on the PSP. I doubt nintendo would let sony get away with being the only device with Office applications :stuck_out_tongue:

And wert, you do know there are already a ton of DSLinux projects going on right? The <a href=“http://www.dslinux.org”>foremost one</a> is being spearheaded by the guys who did
GCLinux/Dolphino
(ahhh, don’t kill me) and they already have <a href=“http://www.themodgods.com/images/card_test_1_small.jpg”>a</a> <a href=“http://www.themodgods.com/images/card_adapter_3_small.jpg”>working</a> <a href=“http://www.themodgods.com/natrium42s.jpg”>method</a> of writing to a DS card, and having the DS read it. Won’t be long.

Anyone hear about how hard these DS things were to find during the Christmas season?

I didn’t even ask for one, and I still got it. My mom asked me if I wanted one and I told her I didn’t see any reason too, I’d rather get a few games, and there aren’t really any games I wanted for the system anyway. I should’ve known by the somewhat crestfallen look on her face. The thing is, though, I was thinking of actually bringing it back. I got Fire Emblem for Christmas as well. When I started playing it on the DS, I quickly changed my mind.

I had heard about it looking pretty, but oh my gosh, that thing is just darned…pretty. Now, all they need is some games I really want. I don’t want Mario 64, I’ll dish out my Nintendo 64 for that.

OK I’ll wait till they’ve been around abit before grabbing myself one. It’s on the list after Buy Gamecube Zelda games and ToS and FF:CC and Possibly FF12.

Big Nutter

Dev: Yep, I know. Been checking it out quite a bit.

The important thing to notice, though, is that the Nintendo DS PDA capabilities are great. 15 hours battery life as an MP3 player? Hell yeah! It can even play small movies, and the fact that it got virtually no movable parts… With luck, it’ll even be able to stream movies over the WiFi.

So, things are looking bright for Linux on the DS IMO. Then again, I’m just a geek. What do I know?

I’d like an electronic agenda on my DS, it’ll be useful.

But face it, Nintendo consoles should stick to being a GAMING CONSOLE :open_mouth:

Edit: Hey! Here an idea! Why can’t those Linux morons make THEIR OWN CONSOLE before trying to stick their bullshit into our stuff!?! D: D: D:

Those Linux guys aren’t morons… I support them, the only reason I’m still using crappy windows is because of compatibility with certain software. The moment this problem is solved, I’ll definitely switch. Stupid Microsuck.

The reason they can’t do that, at least one that they all can agree on, is because of how the open source commuity works. They won’t agree on a final design, not all of them, so variants will be made. Components cut, removed, replaced, added, what have you. This will make the… pcs. Yeah.

Booken: If you want a handheld console, well, you have one already, stop complaining about people giving added value to a device. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. That’s the beauty of freedom, see?
