I have it every now and then (3, maybe 4 times a month). I’ve never gotten sick from it.
I go fairly often with friend and whatnot.
As long as you don’t choose some back-alley sushi place you shouldn’t worry about food poisoning. Actually most decent sushi stores are probably safer to eat at than like Mcdonalds or something.
I’d check the health inspection rating for the resteraunt in the paper before I’d eat their sushi.
The store I used to work at sold packaged sushi. The guy who stocked the sushi used to give us cashiers anything that had been left over from the day before when he came in the morning. Since none of this stuff had actual meat (it was fake crab and cucumber and the like), I figured there was no harm in eating day-old sushi, since it was being refridgerated.
Bad idea. For about a month I relished in free sushi, until one day it made me sick. Not terribly sick, but I was in discomfort for a couple of hours. And I’ve never eaten the packaged stuff since.
Restaurant sushi, on the other hand, has always been good to me. And the sushi that I’ve made myself.
I only eat vegetarian sushi, and usually I make it myself.
No problems here.
