Super Robot Wars

I just dled SRW3 today, and I was wondering if there are any others in the series available in English.

I believe that SWR 3 is the only one that is fully translated but there are a few other games that are in the works.

If you are desperate, this is supposed to be a translated description trough SRW Alpha 3 so you know what’s going on. I haven’t played the game so heaven knows if this is real.

Yeah, that’s a real plot synopsis. I’m playing Alpha 3 right now, I’m just past the part where Athrun appears in Justice to beat up the ZAFT suits after the Zeta Gundam and Dancouga dudes have their little plot tussel (spoilered for the three or so people who might care). It’s easily the best turn-based RPG ever and it only requires minimal memorisation to play (i.e. ‘this set of squiggles does THIS’). Here’s a list of what mechs are in the game;

Dancougar
GoShogun
Space Runaway Ideon
GaoGaiGar
GaoGaiGar FINAL
Daitarn 3
Zeta Gundam
ZZ Gundam
Gundam: Char’s Counterattack
Gundam 0083
Gundam SEED
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
Mazinger Z
Great Mazinger
Getter Robo
Getter Robo G
Shin Getter Robo
Iron Jeeg
Combattler V
Voltes V
Daimos
Gaiking
Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster
Raideen
Macross: Do You Remember Love
Macross Plus
Macross 7
Virtual On Mars
Virtual On Oratorio Tangram
Neon Genesis Evangelion
End of Evangelion
Banpresto Originals

Here are some nice GaoGaiGar videos showing the general quality of the attack animations (Nightblade you probably shouldn’t watch these):

Macross: Do You Remember Love

Holy shit, is the Skull included?

Yes.

I am SO picking this up.

For everyone else who’d like to see what a good SRW game is like, get the rom of Super Robot Wars J for the GBA. It’s a lot simpler and easier to pick up them Alpha 3 and has a ton of good series in it;

Gundam SED
G Gundam
Brain Powered
SPT Layzner
Mazinkaizer
Combattler V
Voltes V
Zeorymer
Dancougar
Nadesico
Full Metal Panic
Full Metal Panic Fumoffu (BONTA-KUN WHUT)
Tekkaman Blade

They pushed the GBA cart to it’s limits to get a ton of nice attack animations in and you need zero Japanese skills to play it. There are even GameFAQs FAQs for it.

edit; here’s a promotional video for SRWJ: Yousendit link

edit2; bonus picture of Selena, the main female pilot of Alpha 3.

All the SRW females have major jiggle. It’s tradition or something I guess.

And why is that? Spoilers for GGG Final?

No, just what Genesic GaoGaiGar’s attacks are. I don’t know whether you want to wait for the eps to be released or something.

AGTP is working on a couple other SRW games.

I FINALLY found it.

I DARE you to watch that and not want to run out and buy Alpha 3 immediately.

That does make me want to go buy it… tis a shame that it’s cost way more than I want to spend to buy it and then to be able to play it…

I am so tempted to go mod my PS2

Unless you’re going to play a lot of imports, don’t. I got mine modded in January and I still haven’t actually used any of the new “features” except for burning a nintendo playstation emulator and playing FF3 through on it. I’ve got a DMS4-Lite chip, if it helps any.

Get a Swap Magic set like I did.

What it does is, the Swap Magic disc stops spinning then you use the tool provided to open the CD-tray/top without the PS2 registering it. Then just switch discs an use the tool to close it again. Presto, play import or burned games/DVDs.

It cost me £20 for Swap Magic + £40 for SRWA3, but it was seriously fucking worth it. Not only does it look amazing but there are like ten different route splits and four main characters + storylines (none of whose amazing mechs were in that video) and a ton of unlockable shit (Hi-Nu Gundam, the Sazabi etc). Eat your heart out Fire Emblem.

edit; small picture of the Dis Astranagant, Cobray’s mid-game upgrade (yes, ALL the characters get classic Mid-Season Upgrade treatment) which rises out of hell (scroll down).

Pie, you’ve convinced me. Both should be arriving at my door soon.

The SRWJ support-pilots approve of your purchase.

Speaking of them… what do each of them do for me? Right now I’m using the blonde because I figured 301 >210>11 (stat points shown) but I don’t know the real difference. I now know that 210 has +10 crit rate though…
