Yeah, compressing like 2/3 of a 26-episode show into two hours really didn’t work out well. The first hour and a half is mostly a waste of time, as it’s basically just a rushed summary that lacks strength in most vital situations…
But then the last thirty minutes begin to roll and it’s a whole different story. The last fourth of the film is basically a much extended version of episode 26, and goddamnit is it ever worth the wait. I loved it, and it does a great job of giving the Anti-Spiral a much less pussyfied performance, the part where it rips the TTGL apart was fucking brutal and it made the rebound asskicking feel a lot more like a struggle than just the “Okay, last chapter, do the drill thing and let’s wrap it up” from the TV version.
The fistfight at the end was awesomet as a finale.
Also, the detail of Simon wandering the earth planting flowers for Nia made his whole hobo act seem a lot less depressing by giving it an actual purpose.
