Scribblenauts

Haven’t heard too many people talking about this game, but it intrigues the hell out of me just due to the extreme amount of things you can do with it.

For the uninformed, Scribblenauts is a DS game that has you entering words into the game to summon objects and people to accomplish objectives. This may include getting a star, getting a cat down from a tree, or other crazy stuff. The game has over 10,000 words programmed into it, so you can do a lot of shit.

Basically the rules are…

Concrete Objects Only
No Proper Nouns
No Copyrighted Words
No Adjectives
E-E10 rated words only - this means No Vulgar/Offensive/Lewd/Drug/Alcohol related words

Other than that… pretty much anything works.

Here’s a small list of some (interesting) things you can conjure up:
Keyboard Cat (Ha.)
God (Not a typo.)
Einstein (He doesn’t like God.)
Kraken
Dinosaur
Zombie
Time Machine

And things do interact appropriately somewhat. For example, if zombies bite somebody, they become a zombie. If a villain becomes exposed to the full moon, they become a werewolf. If you hit a cow with a sword, he becomes meat.

If that hasn’t caught you attention, then read this quote:

I FUCKING TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT ZOMBIES.
And yes, you CAN actually do that.

I’ve been watching this game for a while. This is probably one of the few games I’m really looking forward to for the DS. It seems like a pretty fresh idea, and very replayable.

The word for getting a star ought to be Mario if you know what I mean.

wow, i got really excited by the sound of this game I was going to just buy it. I open ebay, amazon, and half.com to compare the prices…and see a message telling me its not out till december.
Really, really dissapointing!

I just watched the God with a Shotgun vs Cthulhu video.
It was epic.

It’s too bad that copyrighted words are verboten. I would’ve enjoyed riding the sandworms of Arakkis (I guess I could just stick to riding conventional worms in regular sand).

I felt it was worth putting up. (See quote in 1st post for relevance.)

PLEASE tell me that’s the box art for this game. :ulty:

I doubt it will be the final box art. The studio’s artist drew post 217 from NeoGAF as a way of showing thanks for all the hype it has created.

Here’s the ERSB’s somewhat hilarious explanation of the game:

This is a puzzle game in which players navigate a series of traps, puzzles, and enemies to collect stars scattered throughout the colorful levels. Players have the ability to summon different objects by writing/typing in the word (e.g., bike, spaceship, lion) and watching it come to life. If multiple words are entered in a sequence, different whimsical scenarios can be triggered: a bicycle can be used to jump over a baby; a bulldozer can clear away a shark; and cabbage can be fed to dinosaurs. Players can elect to summon “cartoony” versions of bats, bombs, guns, and flamethrowers. These types of items can be used to destroy objects or even other summoned items (e.g., a club can be used to hit an animal; steak can be attached to a baby to attract lions; rockets can be lobbed at a man). These triggered animations are minimally depicted and are usually accompanied by popping, musical sound effects; bright, star-shaped flashes; or small puffs of smoke. If players wish to, they may type in the word vomit, which causes a beige-colored lump to appear on the screen.

I’ll be jumping babies on my bike now…with pieces of meat attached.

Heh, prudence counsels low hopes, but you bet I’m curious to play it.
