Rpg Maker 2003

Sadly enough, Epico speaks the truth. I was kind of hoping that history wouldn’t repeat it self with RMXP, however futile that hope was.

On the bright side, I’m pretty sure that if you purchase the official japanese version and have it imported then you are in right to get a translated copy. I may be wrong, but if you pay for the game, why not be able to download a copy that you can understand?

and Yar, I thought we were past making fun of people for incorrect grammar… Hm, maybe not?

No, I’m just making a point. Seriously. A large corporation isn’t gonna be impressed by bad grammer.

I know that I type with bad grammer, but when I do something important I type correctly.

lol, im sure you do

Oh the irony.

Izlude, no one has the right to translate it even if you import it. A software can only be translated if the copyrights holder (in this case, Enterbrain) hires or formally allows someone to do so, which has not been the case up to now.

yeah its great talking about the moral values of downloading it, but seriously, where on the world wide web can i steal it?

Sorry, but we can’t post where to get it here even though I know of several places. I’m sure if you really wanted to you could find it.

www.google.com

As for RM2K(3), I haven’t used them in a while but I’m partial to the original. They’re good stuff for all those wanna be game makers.

I know theres alot of talk and banter about the moral rights and wrongs between downloading programs and what not, my response is this:

Those who dont care, in the end, will do it anyway. To say not to just caues its wrong is silly, cause no one gives a rat’s patootie. In this game-maker’s case, we CANNOT get it in America, which is unfair. However, because they choose NOT to translate it and send it stateside, people like Don Miguell WILL translate copies for us to find and download.

I know people jack Photoshop all the time, as it is the single most pirated software on the market. And heres a tid-bit I was informed of by someone who works for microsoft: Microsoft’s Anti-Piracy website was made using a pirated copy of Photoshop! Hurray for people who like to talk, eh? I found that one out while at work.

So in conclusion, were here to talk about the game maker its self, none of us are linking to sites that have it. None of us are going to go “oh no, RPGMaker is illegal to own?! I better delete it!” you know why? Cause we dont care. If Enterbrain is going to sue half a million (or more, however many I dont know, but there’s alot) pre-pubesant teenagers and RPG fans alike, then WOW, they are tight-ass. At most, they crack down on sites that offer it for download, and that is thier choice.

So really, why complain if were running warez? Are you the kind of person who doesnt download MP3s? Or have any other kind of software on your PC that you didnt pay for? Congradulations if so, your a rare breed.

I never understood why gaming companies are against NES and SNES roms. Don’t they understand that if it wasn’t for roms, those games would be being played about 90% less and thus there company would receive that much less publicity? Those companies should be hosting their own pages with free roms(and advertisements). It would be a heck of alot better than having to vote for such-and-such site at ‘Top 25 rom webpages’ and download adware.

But that would require them to loose potential money if they (like Nintendo has been doing for the later part of their sad life) rehashing the old stuff and selling it again!

Unfortunately, IMO companies are money grubbing whores and we’ll never see “free hosting” from thier old stuff because they DONT make money off of it.

Then again, there may be a better reason that I cant read into their minds and find out!

Thanks for the words of advice izlude. That sums it up better than anything else i’ve read.

How much money can they possibly make by selling their old NES and SNES games??? How much money could they potentially make by hosting free NES and SNES roms on a web site and advertising on that site??? I think they could make a heck of a lot more money by advertising on a free rom site(which could even be their own company home site) then they can by selling new copies of each NES and SNES game. They don’t even sell new copies of each NES and SNES game - the vast, vast majority of NES and SNES games bought are used games. What’s the logic these gaming companies are using?

Uh, of course game companies are money grubbing whores. They exist to make entertainment, and since entertainment is a luxury item (in reference to like medicinal fields), they’re going to charge you for it. Their sole purpose is to make money.

The reason they don’t sell new games is because they quit manufacturing them (I want to say 11-12 years ago). Still some of the games are still worth quite a bit of money. If you look on ebay you can find new nes games still in the plastic, but they’ll cost you. I saw a new final fantasy go for $85.

But imho they could make a lot more money for themselves by creating free download sites with tons of advertising than by auctioning the few new cartridges they have on Ebay. I would go to a free rom download site, even register for one and allow my personal information to be distributed(if it was free) and endure advertising, rather than have to download spyware onto my computar and vote at the goddamn ‘top 25 roms site’ or ‘top 50 roms site’ or whatever. We all know that existing rom sites kinda suck. Why not let them be run by the professional companies?

mayhaps they are of this mind: Why make money on a past legacy, when we can make a new one and suck in people who crave next gen games?

I guess there is no good reason why they WONT do it, other than they are lazy and dont care about the old things that they did right.

Plus, they know fans will download them anyway, no matter what route they go… then again, they may also just be stubborn and not want to give in to the demand!

To be honest, I’d wish they would bring RPGMXP over here, as I hoped they would with RPGM2K3, but they chose not to, because people were already pirating it. For a while a lot of people in the RPGMaking community boycotted RPG2K3 with the hopes it would discourage pirating, and convince ASCII and Enterbrain to bring it to NA, but no luck. The same thing would happen to RPGXP no doubt, and it’s a pity, because I’d like to see at least one RPGMaking PC software brought over to North America legit.

I’m not one to criticize pirating, but at least I never bothered with RPG2k3, nor will I bother with XP.

So yes, we can’t really justify being critical of those who pirate RPGXP when we do things like use RPG2k or SNES ROMS, PSX ISOs, and crap like that. …but I’d STILL like to actually own a copy of one of these makers though.
