Recommend me some Mecha series

For those not familiar with the term, it’s the kind of giant robot shows that at least attempt to include a passable amount of realism, as opposed to Super Robot shows where LOVE AND JUSTICE and THE OATH OF COURAGE can get the main character through anything. Nothing against that mind you, but after Mazinkaiser, GaoGaiGar, G Gundam and Dendoh, I need a break.

I’ve already seen absolutely everything with Gundam (All universes, all shows) so that’s out. I’m right now downloading FMP and FMP:TSC (Already seen Fumoffu) and I’ve heard great things about Eureka 7, but I was wondering what else I’m missing.

have you tried Martian Successor Nadesico? It’s sorta a comedy, sorta a mecha, sorta a spoof of super robot series. Good fun anyway, assuming it meets your requirements. I suppose as realism in anime goes it’s, well… considering characters die and other characters grieve it’s not that bad.

Macross. I loved the first one. I’m watching Macross 7 right now and it pales in comparison to the original. It wouldn’t be too bad if it weren’t for nearly every male character drooling over a 14 year old girl. :no2:

Ok, it’d be too hard to list everything I HAVE seen, but for reference, try to limit suggestions to somewhat recent shows. Thank you for the input, but I’ve seen Nadesico and Macross was probably the first anime I ever saw.

Big O. I’m not sure if it’s classified as a mecha series but there are giant robots involved…
Seriously though, I enjoyed this series once they did a second season and it was no longer completely hanging plotwise. It has a bit of a Batman feel to it with the animation style and some of the characters, but the protagonist doesn’t wear a costume!

edit - I’m glad you’re getting FMP (I’ve loved all of it so far, but FUMOFFU! is a lot different in tone from the rest of the anime) and that you’re going to check out Eureka Seven. These are some of my favorites lately.

I’m a fan of Super Robot Wars Divine Wars right now, but that’s because I like the games.

Panda-Z if you like short bursts of rockin’ fun. (Although it’s still techincally a Super Robot show.)

There’s also Fanir in the Azure, but I couldn’t quite get into it myself.

Right now Code Geass is fucking tops and I heartily recommend it. I can also say Soukou no Strain is pretty cool and is well on it’s way to being a bloodbath of Tomino-sized proportions.

As far as mecha animes go i second Eureaka 7, im curetly on eps 37. As far as other animes go i recomend RahXephon. Its simmalar to Evangelion but far less apocolytic. Its has a really good story and is actually directed by the same guy who did Eureka 7. Another less well known anime is Pilot Candidate (aka Candidate for Goddes). Its only twelve eps, and ive only seen part of it but i thought it was pretty good. Hmmm thats all i can think of off the top of my head. I’ll get back to you if I think of any more.

OHHH I just remebered another one! Its kind of more fantasy but its still a mecha anime is “Escaflowne”. Again i have yet to see the whole series, but ive seen most of it and really enjoyed it.

Hope I could help

Eureka Seven, and Code Geass are both fantastic shows. Check out Space Runaway Ideon too, now that all of it is subbed, including the 2nd and final movie with the legendary ending.

This man has taste.

Genesis Climber Mospeada. I just finished watching it last week. It’s pretty good. Starts off kinda slow, but the characters grow on you. If you like motorcycles, aliens, 80’s anime and mechs…check it out.

I could give a shit about Evangelion, but it was bound to come up, so…
