Re: Firefox user study (last one, I promise)

Those guys who downloaded the Webstats extension (including Steve, Yar, Deadtear, Jabricuds, Frameskip…) I’ve sent you an e-mail. I haven’t gotten a reply, so apparently none of you check your e-mail, but I’ve reproduced it here. I hope it isn’t too late. -_-

First, did you get a popup wizard when you open your browser asking a few questions and sending data to the server? If not, make sure the extension is installed (go to Tools -> Extensions) and let me know. If yes, the data didn’t go through. It’s a very hard to track down bug, apparently. -_-

There might be a way for me to salvage the data, though sometimes it seems to have been deleted. X-X Anyway, try this:

Can you see if the folder that holds the data still exists? In Windows XP, this is
C:\Documents and Settings*Username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles*Random Folder*\extensions{3b513c06-f47f-11d9-9495-00e08161165f}
In Linux, this is
~/.firefox/extensions/{3b513c06-f47f-11d9-9495-00e08161165f}
If the folder doesn’t exist, let me know… that means unfortunately I’ve lost your data. >_< If it does exist, see if there’s a file called “webstats.7z” or “webstats.tar.gz” and send it to me. If that doesn’t exist, just zip up that entire folder and send it to me.

Please get back to me about it, 'cause there’s a big chunk of data I’d like to get my grubby hands on. ^^;

Folder’s gone, sorry.

(And yes, I did remember to fill in my own information instead of copy/pasting the adress you gave <_<)

This is what I meant last time.

Sin, firstly, this is a different extension (there are two of them) and secondly, I knew about the bug before I started, which is why I collected the e-mail addresses, so I had a backup plan if the data send failed. Note that the data did get through most of the time, so it’s not like it simply doesn’t work. I still don’t know why or when it doesn’t work.

The only problem is that I was a bit too overly helpful in my program, meaning that I had it uninstall itself automatically. I tested that on my own computer and the files remained there, but apparently on other computers they get deleted.

I’m still not sure why you made that comment in the last thread, when it was about beta testing the other extension. The whole point of beta testing is that there are bugs in it that need to be ironed out.

Anyhoo… TD and Cless, I’ve already got yours. ^^; If we’ve had an e-mail conversation about it then we’ve already dealt with it. The following are the username part of the e-mail addresses of people I haven’t gotten anything from and have not been able to contact via e-mail (not sure how many of them are from here):

deadtear
jabricruds
gamer5389
Frameskip4
stevesherrick
yar.kramer
claudeznack
tplaner

I was confused in the other thread as I did not know there were 2 extensions.

Sorry, forgot to reply to your e-mail.
During the middle of testing I had to reformat, and forgot to get the webstats pluging back. Sorry =\

Gah, all right. Thanks for letting me know.

Pre-format, it made Firefox hang while it was encrypting them or whatever. Post-format … was post-format.

And, uh, I didn’t actually get the mail. :o

I went through a formatting too. If I had thought to do it I would have salvaged the data. Sorry. :frowning:

I’m on a different computer. Sorry :confused:

Ninja-edit: I checked, no folder on the old computer, no idea what the fuck happened man. I’m gonna keep digging, but if I dont respond in the next day or so, assume I cant find it.

Same case here, no such folder exists. Sorry I didn’t respond to your email, I’ve been getting a lot of spam that gets past my filter and I may have deleted it by accident.

Owie… -_-
Kero: Which e-mail address did you use?
