Question about torrenting...

I don’t torrent much, so I don’t know a lot about the ins and outs of it. But I recently found soemthing I wanted to torrent. It has 33 seeders at the moment, which I’m told isn’t bad.

…unfortunately, when I started torrenting, my download speed wavers between 1 and 10 KBs per second. Estimated time until completion: A couple hundred hours.

What gives? I don’t have a top-of-the-line box by any definition of the word, but I’d like to think it’s not that slow. Is there something wrong with the torrent? Something I’m doing wrong? Or something else alltogether?

Torrents generally go slower when you start them, as it gets going for a while the speed will usually pickup. It all depends on the ratio of seeders to leechers, and upload of all the other peers. I will ask what client you’re using, because some are definatly better then others.

I’m not certain. A friend of mine installed it for me quite some time ago. What’s a good client?

(And there were 40something leechers.)

EDIT: My current client is BitTorrent, I think.

Basically, torrents work by everyone sending stuff to other people. Once you’ve got more than a few kb, and your stuff actually gets passed around, your speeds get way the hell better.

And just hope your friend has done the necessary port forwarding. Or ask him.
